kitchen sink

what lies in the kitchen sink
when lights are dimmed
people sleeping and snoring
when night peeps in
the kitchen to look at the sink.

there lies ceramic plates,
plastic glasses and spoons
of odd shapes.
there lies bits of food and
smiles on every plate.
there is the saliva of pleasure
of the food made by mama
and the impatient wait for papa,
as he returns home late.
there are smeared smiles
and laughs as we lick our fingers,
conversations blended into
an incoherent song of good ol' times
and the tv being ignored,
as the word 'world' condenses
into the word called 'family'.
grandpa's toothless smiles
and grandma's warm embrace,
mama's eyes as she looks at
our hungry faces
and our eyes as we look how
her food heals even our wounds —
all these go down the kitchen sink,
down the pipe, in a wink.

morning comes, sink is clean
but there lies another story
as mama cooks breakfast in a hurry.

Author's note:

Listening to 'Kitchen Sink' by Twenty One Pilots. And suddenly, this idea came. Although the poem is not actually directly related to the song, PLEASE LISTEN TO THE SONG! It's absolutely beautiful. It has so much depth that I want to drown in it till my last breath. It's amazing. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
