of hurricanes and people

it makes sense why hurricanes

are named after people for

people are hurricanes,

carrying grey under their sleeves,

unshed raindrops under their eyelids,

threatening to split open the sky

and bring about a storm.

but as they ravage about their own heart

they forget they're not just hurting themselves

but the ones who decided to make

a home out of their hearts

and now can do nothing but

be destroyed.

people try and try to hold back their storms,

they try to lay miles and miles of

yellow raincoats and slip boots under your sole

but their trying was never enough, was it?

for if it were, we won't be ghosts in a ruined city.

maybe sometimes, they let out their hurricanes

to see who stays till the weather clears,

maybe sometimes, hurricanes aren't what they seem,

they are not here to destroy.

maybe sometimes, hurricanes are just

people crying for help,

and realising after every storm,

they still can rise and rise and rise.
