poetry is a lot like loving

poetry is a lot like loving.
it cannot be forced out
as your mind wants it to.

some days, poetry comes
like a pageant
of beautifully sewn metaphors.
you don't have to write it
for such poems just write themselves.
but, most days, poetry comes
weak, vulnerable and broken;
convinced that it's a misfit,
that none could mend ever.
you've to then show how
it fits so perfectly in between
the lines of your notebook,
and you've to give up your precious verses
to write that poem.

poetry is a lot like loving.
most days, it needs to be healed,
but every single day, trust me,
it won't fail to heal you.

you'd want to bleed poetry
but you cannot, for poetry, like love,
comes unexpected and
it goes when it must be.
when it goes, you'll be left with memories.
if you are lucky, you might
meet the poem on a busy
monday morning or in a crumpled note.
you'll see words changed,
metaphors added and some tossed away
but you'll love it anyway
for it still hasn't given away
the pieces of your soul you gave it.

poetry is a lot like loving
and on days when i'm brave enough
to be insane, i cannot make out
between poetry and you.
