WORDS OF THE DEAD

(LOSS)

It was a normal day
Breakfast, at the boring bench
Before fun and games
Behind us, toothy grins in picture frames
Echoes of times great

Football in the street
Before a tasty treat
I was yet to meet
My greatest enemy

Life was good; life was great
Until later on that fateful day
Mum's face began to leak
How she looked so very weak
She took off in the car
Didn't come back for hours and hours
Leaving me hugging daddy

But when she did come back she said to me
Remember grandma?  Family.
Well granny's gone away for awhile
She said with a saddened, painful smile
Where?, I say quite confused
My blanket bundled up in two
She can see you
Up there, her finger raised in the air

That night, as always, a  goodnight prayer
Only now granny is in heaven, and not.
  There

  There
