WORDS OF THE DEAD

(ALCOHOLISM)

Down yet another drink
As your brain begins to fog
Take a moment, stop and think
With every swig, you're wearing away every cog

The vision soon becomes blurry
Out of focus
To the hospital, you must hurry
But instead you say "hold this"

As you grab another beer
Your compadres seal the deal, with a "cheers!"
Another few batches
More poison, the liver catches
As you batten down the hatches

Another bottle
Another can
Soon the topple
Young man

As your sight swiftly blackens
Oblivious the what has happened
The clever liquid has collected
The hangover making sure you couldn't have
Recollected

Every night the stinking stuff
Begins tame, then turns tough
This addition so hard to break
A dwindling supply of clean slates

So many times you've tried to break it
But of course, you crave, yet another hit
Burning your liver
Slither by bitter slither
This liquid, truly is
A killer

Companies put on a show for alcohol
The reality is not at all
Close to the pretty picture they have portrayed
Like the drink
It has been made
To serve

To serve the callous, rich, women and men
Signing away lives with ballpoint pens
As another truck arrives
Hundreds of victims have died

The luring siren
Sober drinkers; it's hard to find them
Appears pleasant in the glass
Silently making you forget the future past

As the night slowly dies
You're still drinking with the guys
High off poison, like ecstasy
In the morning, you won't remember a thing
