ORCHID

I gave my friend an orchid with pencil on the back
He kissed me on the cheek
And
He told me
put the orchid in your hair
It will grow like the roots in there

I told him 'I don't wanna be like the other boys
He told me that they'd stare
Right at you
But he'd glare in their faces
And he'd be the insole to my shoe

And the other boys
They didn't get it
Too busy looking at pornos and playing rugby
To notice the was something
Different

Years ago
My mother told me
In a forest near the sea
Put the orchid in your hair
When I'm no longer standing there
Beside you, holding your little hand
Have something to remember me by
Cause honey
your my little guy

I heard the sound
Of squealing tyres
And airbags filling
She wouldn't wake up
When I brushed her face
I touched her
But our's hands
They wouldn't interlace

Mother gone from my side
The night she died
In a field of orchids
By the sea
The last thing she ever said was
Remember me

So I took an orchid
Wrote pencil on the back
Gave it to my friend
And he hugged me so tight
On the pencil marks it said
I've lost my mum
And I gave it
To my friend

He said
Put the orchid in your hair
It'll grow, like the roots in there
And all the kids will stare
But you know,
your mum's right there

Don't judge a book by its cover
It'll all be fine
Give me your name under the starlight
It'll be alright
