RED SAND AND BLUE CRABS

For mum, dad, granny's and Granda's

I miss the red sand and blue crabs
The yellow brick roads and chocolate-covered slabs
I miss the castles filled with air
The prison of my high chair

The trapping stair gates
Those pesky plastic plates
The loving smile of my mother
And the smug scoldings of my brother

I miss the pirates sailing all seven seas
The sickening stench of mums blue cheese
Stories of princes, goblins and dragons
The booster seat of dads Volkswagen

I miss the candy of granny and Granda
The trips to the zoo to stare at lions and munching pandas
Splash of puddles in welly boots
Tiny cartons of orange juice

Football on a Saturday
Climbing in a sycamore tree
Conker battles
At the orchard picking apples

Sitting on Santa's knee
Family trips stealing shells from the sea
Skimming rocks at the harbour docks
Woolly Spider-Man socks

How I miss the olden days
Now I have my own kids to raise
I'll play this on my wedding day
I hope these days can stay with me

In days of old and days of young
In all my love unsung
In shouts of hormones
And face of acne

Thanks for taking care of me
