Zayn's POV

"What on earth has you whistling all over the place?"

I chuckle before staring at Gina and raising my eyebrows. Though I do continue to whistle while glancing down at Li and Adrian- my sidekicks for yet another day at the office.

"Listen, I'm all for a happy boss because happy boss equals happy employees. But like- and no offense-but like, you have really bad resting bitch face. And you're grumpy a lot. So this is weird."

I stop in my tracks and actually glare at her for that one (for at least a full minute), before lifting a manilla envelope of files off of her desk. I guess I can't hold that against her because while overall I've been happier over the last couple of years, said happiness hasn't necessarily stemmed from this place. Don't get me wrong, I've grown rather fond of the business and its different aspects since taking charge (go figure), but my happiness has a lot [more] to do with my family.

So naturally, I start whistling again. What a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

She throws her hands up. "Sorry, but it's true." It's silent for a second before, "Is it Charlie?"

I grin. "Always. But actually, my sisters are coming into town today for Thanksgiving. And with that being said, we'll be leaving a little bit early so that we can pick them up from the airport." And despite the fact that we (more like everyone else) decided that our place be the place for dinner this year, I'm actually excited.

Shit.

Yeah I know. Who would have thought?

"Aw, cute. You miss them, don't you?"

"Yeah," I scratch at my beard. "I mean, I'd love for them to move out here, but my aunt's an asshole. I don't think she actually cares if they move out here, but she knows that's what I would want, so she won't budge."

I think back to the dinner we had at my parents' house on Thanksgiving a couple of years ago, when I brought Charlie and Marley home for the first time.

Yikes.

My aunt was such a dickhead to them.

And ever since my parents passed and left me with the business, she's been bitter-even more so.

"Daddy, come. Wanna eat." Adrian grabs onto my hand. Right. I was running pretty late this morning and I promised the kids we would eat when we got to the office- hence why Adrian's in his Spiderman pajamas and Li's in...who knows.

Except I didn't really think about what we'd eat. Welp, cafeteria food it is.

As if they care, please.

"Okay, okay." I allow him to tug on my hand. "Gina, can you order two pancake platters with eggs, as well as two orange juice boxes and have them sent up to my office, please? And two applesauces too. And I'll take a plain bagel with veggie cream cheese."

"Sure."

I'm conscious of Adrian pulling me down the hallway, so I start trudging along. "Thanks."

The food arrives not too much longer after we make ourselves comfortable in my office. The kids have set up shop on the floor, on some newspaper, of course. I even brought along stuff for them to make a fort- they love that shit.

I really should be finishing up all of this paperwork before the mini break, but I can't bring myself to do it. For one, I'm trying to get everything coordinated with Charlie about the mass amount of fucking people coming to our house.
