In south India marriage between cousins is not a taboo. Moreover it is common. Boys marry their paternal aunt's daughter or maternal uncles's daughter. They dont marry paternal uncle's or maternal aunt's daughter as they consider them as their sisters.
I personally am not a fan of marriages between cousins but it is very common in south India.
