Chapter 25: How Could He?

ZACH
Corbyn, Daniel, and Jonah helped me avoid Jack throughout the day. I didn't want to talk to him, but at the same time, I craved his presence. It's like I need him in my life to feel less of this depressed , stupid person.

Daniel, do you mind walking me to A.P Chemistry? I kinda don't want Jack to see me alone and try to talk to me.

"Of course," He smiles, throwing his water bottle in a nearby bin. "Now, lets get to your class so I can get to mine on time," He giggles, speeding up the stairs  and weaving through the hundreds of students.

Thanks Dani. Bye

"Bye bubs!" He shouts, walking in the opposite direction to his class. I sigh as I slowly walk in the classroom, being one of the very few students already there. And just my luck, Jack was already here, but sitting with someone else. My guess, that Gabbie girl. I sigh and slide into a stool that was in the back, not wanting to draw attention to myself. A tall, dirty blonde boy, however, had caught my eye. He seemed new and looked like he had no where to go. He looked around the room and almost looked like he wanted to run out. I wave him over and pat the seat next to me, a small grin portrayed on my face. He smiles and walks over to me, sitting in the stool and instantly turning towards me. "Thanks for letting me sit here. I don't know anyone in this class, since I am very much new," He chuckles at his own joke.

It's nothing really. I had no one to sit next to, either.

"Oh. Well, now you have me. My names Eben by the way," he says.

I'm Zach.

"Cool. Also, I know sign language so you don't have write down what you're wanting to say," He added. "How come you know how to understand asl? Sorry if this is personal." I sign. "One of my old friends is deaf and throughout the years I just learned to understand and sign." He responded, his bright smile fading slightly. "Oh. Well, now you have me and I can introduce you to my other friends, too." I signed, my grin becoming wider. "Cool! Thanks!" He beamed, getting interrupted by the bell.

Time skip to lunch cause I'm lazy XDD

Eben and I had learned we had much in common. He was very good at drawing, but in his words, "never as good as you". We had many classes together, too. He seemed like quite the social butterfly so meeting my friends should be easy. He was too tall so I am forced to look up at him, as he talked. I waved at Dani, Corbyn, and Jonah, walking towards them. They wave back and Daniel gives me a questioning stare.

This is Eben.

"Oh, hi Eben," Daniel smiles, extending his hand. "Hi!" He beams, shaking Daniel's hand, plopping into the seat next to me.

We all joke around like we used to, telling jokes as I smile and pick at the food in front of me. It no longer looks appetizing. It's like, I want to eat, but I can't because it'll just be forced into me. (Actually me though. Not joking).

"You okay, Zach?" Jonah questions. "I'm fine," I sign. Jonah tilts his head in confusion, not knowing how to respond. "He said he's fine," Eben translates. Jonah nods and looks at me with the, 'are you sure' look. I roll my eyes and push my food aside. "I'm not hungry," I sign. I get up and walk out of the lunch room, bumping into the one person I didn't want to see.

Jack.

"Sorry Zach," He says, awkwardly rubbing his neck.

It's okay.

He nods and his eyes brighten as he sees Gabbie waving across the room. I roll me eyes and proceed to walk out of the room. God I just want to yell at him. How could he forget us? How could he forget me...
