Back outside of the police station once more, we stood around for nearly an hour and a half, before I couldn't take it anymore. I sat down on the sidewalk with a huff and Chris grinned down at me as he shook his head.
"What's wrong, Amber?"
"I know that what we're doing is important, I just wish it wasn't so mind numbing." I explain as I rest my chin in my palms.
Chris dug into his coat pocket and pulled out his small black notebook and held it out to me, saying, "I'll just watch for a bit, you can read through my notes to keep yourself occupied."
I take the book and thumb through a few pages before asking, "Are you sure you want me to read this if you aren't done?"
He shrugged, "You're a literature major, I feel like you'd have some valuable opinions on what I have. Just a heads up, there are some risqué things in there you might want to watch out for."
I rose an eyebrow at him with an amused grin, "I'll be sure to be on the lookout for those things."
He smirked as he rolled his eyes before turning back to the police station murmuring, "Suit yourself."
As I read through Chris' work I had to admit that he was certainly a talented writer. From my peripheral vision I caught him glancing down at me every now and then, probably trying to gauge my reaction to what he had wrote. It didn't take long for me to realize that Chris wrote about some kinky things and I couldn't help giggling at what I was reading.
"What's so funny?" He asked with an amused expression before glancing back at the building across the road.
Movement on the upper arm of Chris's coat caught my eye and I squinted, spotting a spider the size of a quarter crawling up towards his neck.
"Um, Chris?" I called out as I clambered to my feet.
"Hang on, I think I see him."
"You have a spider on you." I point out as I go to brush it off of him with his notebook.
"WHAT?!" He yelped and began frantically beating at his clothes. "Where is it? Did I get it?"
I burst out laughing at his panicking behavior as I watching the spider fly off of him and land on the pavement before skittering away. I collapsed against him as my fit of giggles only grew worse to the point I was shaking.
"It's gone, you knocked it off." I gasp between fits of laughter.
He pouted at me as my chuckling subsided as he muttered, "You're a bitch for just standing there laughing at me."
I whacked him with the notebook retorting, "I was trying to brush it off of you before you started acting like an idiot."
He stuck his tongue out at me mumbling, "You still shouldn't have laughed."
"I can do what I want." I sass as I reached my fingers up, trying to grab his tongue as he slipped it quickly back in his mouth, making a face.
I could feel eyes burning into my side and I glanced over to find Officer Hudson watching us, but the second he realized I knew he was watching, he turned to hurry down the street. I straightened up and began to follow along, but Chris grabbed my wrist to halt me.
I snapped my head in his direction demanding, "What are you doing?"
"We can't follow him now, he'll be expecting it."
"What do we do then?"
"If you want to help, I'm going to come back a few days from now and then we'll see what he does."
