———————————————My alarm clock on my phone started echoing in my ears signaling it was time to get up. I smacked my hand around on my bed trying to find the damn thing and after a few seconds I groaned in frustration and lazily sat up. I groggily opened my eyes and started throwing my blankets around and finally I found my phone shoved under one of my pillows. Once I shut the alarm off I got out of bed and started to get ready for my first day of senior year.
I walked into my in-suit bathroom and flicked on the light, letting my eyes adjust to its brightness. I glanced at myself in the mirror and my reflection staring back at me was someone who seemed so normal. I stripped out of my cheer clothes and threw them on the floor. My body made me cringe in disgust. I was somewhat fit due to years of cheerleading but at the same time I had curves in all the wrong places. My boobs were a DD making cute shirts hard to find for my smaller waist and my hips and ass are huge so finding the perfect pair of jeans was nearly impossible.
I took my long auburn hair down out of the high ponytail it was in and let it fall down to one side of my neck. I sighed loudly as I turned the water on in my shower and let it heat up before I climbed in. Once the hot water touched my back, I hissed in pain when it made contact with my burns. I sucked in a breath trying to get used to the pain, but I didn't, I couldn't. I washed my hair, shaved my whole body, and then scrubbed head to toe as quick as I could. I turned the water off and stepped out and wrapped my body in a big fluffy towel.
I walked back into my room and started shifting through my closet trying to find an outfit to wear. I settled on a black floral shorts romper and some white strapy sandals. I slipped on my underwear and bra and then I put on the romper. I sat in front on my vanity and blow dried my hair and curled it into lose flowy curls and then applied light mascara and eyeliner just enough to make my green eyes really pop. I didn't like to cover my whole face with makeup, mainly because I had sensitive skin and broke out easily so usually I fit bother with it.
I spritzed myself with some perfume and grabbed my school bag, purse, cell phone and car keys. I made my way down the stairs and into the kitchen where Steve was drinking his morning coffee and reading the paper, I decided to be smart and to not test my luck.
"Have you eaten anything for breakfast?" I asked in the nicest tone I could muster, avoiding all eye contact.
"No." His tone was crisp but he didn't look up from the paper.
"I've got some extra time, would you like some toast?" I asked trying to hide my eye roll.
"Sure." He coldly answered again. I pulled the bread out of the pantry and then got the butter out of the fridge and popped two slices into the toaster, awkwardness swarming in the air but neither of us addressed it. I hated that I had to pretend to be nice to him, but if I didn't I knew the consequences and I wasn't going to push any of his buttons.
Once the toast popped up I added some butter and placed them onto a paper plate and walked slowly over to him and sat them beside him with a shaky hand thankfully he didn't notice.
"Thanks." He mumbled and grabbed a piece and began to eat it while I made my way over to the toaster to start my own toast.
"You're welcome. I've got cheer again tonight but I can come home real quick and make you something for dinner." I offered not even paying him any attention.
"Don't worry about it, I've got late meetings tonight so I won't be back in time for dinner I'll order something to the office." I sighed in relief, I enjoyed nights where he worked late. He would work late and come home and pass out in his recliner with a beer in his hand, like always.
I grabbed my toast out of the toaster and buttered them quickly and put them on a plate.
"Okay, I've got to get going, school starts soon. Bye Steve." He didn't reply and honestly I didn't stick around long enough to give him the time to. I rushed out to my car and once I was inside I tossed my bag into the back seat and made my way to school. My cell phone started to ring over the radio so I tried to answer while trying to drive and eat my toast at the same time. A loud horn signaled and I glanced back up at the road and noticed I almost ran into a nice old black camaro, one the owner of clearly puts tons of money into. We both slammed on our breaks and my heart was pounding inside my chest. I was one inch away from hitting this car. I could barely see inside the car but I could place a mans silhouette. He rolled his window down maybe an inch or so, I could only see the top of his head, all I saw was black hair and a tan forehead.
"WATCH WHERE YOU ARE GOING YOU DUMBASS!" A deep sultry voice came from his car before he stomped on the gas and let his tires burn out screeching so loud that people who lived on the street we were on came outside to see what all the commotion was. Before I knew it the black car had sped off into the distance and everyone had went back inside while I remained frozen in my seat. I dug my cellphone out of my purse and seen that it was my mom who called so I pushed call back and let it ring over the radio while I started driving to school again, paying much more attention than just minutes before.
"Hey baby!" My moms voice filled the air inside my car, my heart tugged when I heard her voice. I always missed her so much when she is away.
"Hey mom." I smiled, I missed her so much. Things were better when she was home.
"You on your way to school? Oh baby I can't believe I am missing your first day of senior year." I could hear the sadness in her voice and it weighed on my heart heavily.
"Yes I'm on my way now." I answered as I continued to make my way there.
"Okay good. I don't want you to be late. Listen my business trip was cut short. The buyer decided to go ahead with the purchase so there's no need to extend my trip. I'll be home tomorrow and you can tell me all about your first day, okay?" Her voice now hopeful.
"I would love that mom." I answered honestly. I loved our mother daughter bonding time even though we never talked about anything serious because I couldn't tell her about Steve, she wouldn't believe me, I've tried that, but she's my mom and I know she loves me. However it was nice to have our girl time.
"Okay baby well I have to get back to my meeting. I'll be home before you get home from school tomorrow. I love you."
"I love you too mom." And then the line disconnected and I pulled into the school parking lot and circled around aimlessly trying to find a parking spot. I had to dodge students who clearly didn't care that this was a parking lot and that there were moving vehicles in motion.
I found a spot and started to work my way into it before a car zapped in and stole it, a black old camaro, definitely the same car I almost ran into. I'd recognize this car anywhere. I laid on my horn when the man inside the car climbed out. His long black shaggy hair blew in the wind. He had on black jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black leather jacket with some combat boots. I had never seen him before meaning he was new here.
I sighed in annoyance when he looked my way with a smug smirk across his face as he walked backwards towards the school. His tan skin, square chiseled jaw, scruffy facial hair, and light grayish blue eyes complemented his flawless face, he was good looking to say the very least. I backed my car up and drove to the back of the parking lot where the only empty spots were as I didn't have anymore time to waste. I huffed in disappointment as I put my car in park and grabbed my bag from the backseat and got out, locked my car, and made my way towards the school rushing so I wouldn't be late on my very first day.
