Arielle found herself holding her breath as the men around her talked.

She prayed that in the darkness Sebastian wouldn't see what the men had done.

Okay, so she told a little white lie.

Her arms were beginning to bruise and her leg had gotten cut by a small pocket knife. It did enough damage to cause a quite significant amount of pain but she still stayed quiet.

"Where is she? Are you sure you saw her run here?" A man coughed out, his voice clearly irritated.

"I swear, I saw her hair as she disappeared around this corner!" The presumed Diego answered.

"Ugh!" The man groaned, hitting a tree with what sounded like a machete. "Boss is going to kill us if we don't find her. He spent all this time tracking down his house only for him, better yet her."

Arielle was confused.

How was she more precious than Sebastian in this game?

Wasn't he the one with all the money and power?

After all, she was just his lover who was rumored to be one of his many flavors.

"How bout we pick a girl? He wouldn't know. We can stall him for a while." Diego suggested, his idea continued through silence.

"Yea... but this stays between you and me." The man says before the footsteps begin to get fainter.

Arielle let out a sigh and began to stand up, her left leg aching out for attention.

It wasn't until she looked up that she realized the two men had never left.

"You thought we couldn't hear you." A man chuckled, his face wrapped in a black cloth.

Arielle allowed herself to be pushed back.

"Sebast—"

"Oh shut up, pretty boy can't help you now."

Arielle quieted down, her hand reaching out to stop the men.

"Wa—wait! What if we work things out!" Arielle suggested, finding the words stupid as the words escaped.

They were all killers.

Working things out just wasn't in the books.

"We don't need to work things out darlin'. We just need you alive or dead." Another man spoke as purely evil smile arose.

But before the two men could lunge at her, they both fell down to their feet with Jaxon and Sebastian emerging.

Their guns stayed up as they surveyed the nearby areas and inches closer to Arielle.

"Are you okay?" Jaxon asked, worry plaguing his face.

Arielle nodded but kept her gaze at Sebastian who kept a stern face.

Was he still mad at her?

"Yea, I think I'm fine." Arielle replied, attempting to stand up.

She made an effort to not look at the bodies but at last, she caught a glimpse.

The men laid lifeless on the floor. For a moment, she couldn't help but feel bad.

What if these men had a family?

What if there was a kid waiting at home for their father who would never return.

Arielle knew that the men deserved it to some extent—Sebastian never killed anyone without a reason.

Arielle finally stood up, stumbling a little as soon as pressure was on her foot.

Immediately, Sebastian's eyes grew, stumbling to her side.

Arielle stood surprised, forgetting about the pain for a second.

"Are you okay?" Sebastian questioned, looking her over for injuries.

"What happened to you're foot? I thought u were fine." Sebastian asked, his worry growing.

Arielle shrugged and pushed Sebastian back a little, "I'll be okay."

Sebastian looked cautious but couldn't help but stay frozen as Arielle limped around the men and made her way to the house.

"How you you know if the house is clear for entry?" Jaxon called out jokingly, catching up to Arielle.

"Did you stop me?" She asked, smirking.

Jaxon shrugged and laughed, calling back for Sebastian to hurry his moody ass up.

Sebastian grumbled and surveyed the scene. Arielle smiled as Jaxon told some corny jokes, hoping to brighten the day up.

It hurt that Sebastian couldn't the same right now.

He was still mad and worried all at once, making sure the house was secured enough to stay in tonight.

There would be men in and out of shifts watching the house. He had gotten news that the house and its interior security hadn't been breached and that the intruders had only gotten past the tall gates of his lavish house.

Those who broke in remained stumped at the technical advances Sebastian's engineering team had to offer. Even then, the designers of the house couldn't even unlock it for Sebastian finalized the design and finished it off himself.

As they neared the front door, Jaxon gave Arielle a hug before bidding her good-bye as Arielle entered the numbers into the keypad.

Jaxon sighed, "You know for my boss, you sure are dumb."

Sebastian pulled his gun out and Jaxon tensed before chuckling, "BET, you won't do it."

Sebastian reloaded it before Jaxon put his hands up and shook his head, "Okay! I'll leave sheesh."

Jaxon left and as soon as his car exited away from the house, the gates were closed and relocked.

Sebastian entered the house and let out a breath as he made his way to his office and removed his suit jacket.

A part of him couldn't help but feel bad. After all, Arielle didn't mean to do anything wrong.

"Fuck." He muttered under his breath before taking the draped jacket into one arm and running down the stairs.
