He walked with a limp as he trudged through the cold, empty house.

It was dark and the feeling of loneliness plagued the room.

"Arielle." He groaned, "Come down here."

"Sebastian, I—"

"I didn't say you could come in Zach." He grumbled, irritated. "Fuck off. I'll call you when I need you."

With that, Zach turned around and left.

"Arielle!" Sebastian yelled out as he heard the door lock shut, "Arielle! Come down here!"

His calls were met with silence.

"Please, I just want to see you." He sighed, clutching his rib.

The last week had been living hell for Sebastian.

He knew she must've been livid with him right now.

But above that, he knew that she was hurt. Despite the strong front that she put up, he knew she was scared.

After all, she had all the right to after he disappeared without a word leaving her all alone.

He knew that was what she feared the most-being in the dark about something, being all alone.

The deafening silence began to worry him as he trudged up the steps.

"Ari, I know you're mad." Sebastian continued, "Just hear me out. I'm just really tired right now."

"If it isn't Mr. Cattaneo himself." The man sneered as he took a couple steps closer to Sebastian, cautiously wary due to his decisiveness.

Sebastian reached towards his holster just as the man feigned fear, putting his hands up almost as if to mock him.

"Don't shoot little ole me." He chuckled, "We're all friends here."

Standing next to Sebastian facing his backside, Jaxon stood with his hand on his holster too, ready to shoot.

"Plus, you're outnumbered here." He laughed, finally putting his hands down, "It seems you need to have a long awaited talk it seems. Come with me."

The man walked over to the limo and extended his hand to offer Sebastian in.

"Don't even think about being smart, we've disabled all of the tracking devices in this vicinity." The man stated, "You can either do this the easy way or the hard way, Mr. Cattaneo."

"Oh, of course. You need a bit more persuasion right?" The man taunted, "This is only going to get more fun."

Slowly, the man made his way closer to Sebastian before the two were nothing more of a foot apart.

It was if the man had no fear. No fear of death.

Sebastian watched as the man reach into his pocket and pull out a phone before unlocking it and turning the screen to Sebastian.

Carefully, Sebastian's face turned from the man to the screen.

Arielle.

As the man turned up the volume, he heard her sweet voice that even caused Jaxon to falter from worry.

"Kamryn! Your talk was amazing!" She squealed, "I'm so proud of you! It was so well-spoken and received!"

Immediately, Sebastian pulled out his gun from his holster and held it to the man's head.

"I wouldn't do that if I was you." The man continued, "She's a pretty one isn't she? I would hate to see anything bad happen to her. It is after all, one of the rare occasions she's out of the house."

Sebastian pressed the barrel into his head, "That hurts you know?" The man groaned.

Before his knew it, he felt a sharp sting right under his rib cage.

It was a knife, slowly digging into his skin.

Still, his face remained emotionless as the knife went deeper.

With the gun barrel still pressed against his head, the man began to show fear in his eyes.

How did he not feel pain?

Was he human?

"You better tell whoever has a hit on Arielle right now to call it the fuck off." He grumbled, "I mean, who are you to act like you can order me around? You?"

Sebastian scoffed, "You're nothing more than a bitch that's being ordered around no?"

With that, Sebastian kicked the man away from him and onto the ground.

Despite being surrounded with guns pulled on him, that was the least of his worries.

The man carefully tried to reach the knife that was knocked from his hand before a voice interrupted them.

"Arielle, are you dating anyone?" Kamryn asked, her voice full of curiosity.

Arielle smiled before laughing, "Yea, I have a boyfriend actually. He's such a blessing to be honest. Keeps me sane."

Sebastian's face didn't falter one bit but his mind couldn't help but wonder if this was going to be the last time he heard her laugh.

He didn't want it to end like this.

He couldn't let it end like this.

He promised to protect her.

He'd be useless if he couldn't even do that.

"Mr. Cattaneo please, to the car." The man sighed, "You can tell my boss to call off the hit himself. Wouldn't that be better?"

•••

The dull pain that seared through his body disappeared as soon as he unlocked their bedroom door to find their sheets made with no sign of Arielle.

"Arielle!" Sebastian called out before reaching for his phone and dialing Jaxon.

For the first time in a long time, he truly felt lost and alone.

The feeling haunted him as guilt began to eat at him as he saw the pills on the bedside table.

"Arrange the headquarters for an emergency meeting. She's missing."

•••

"Good, you're awake." The man groaned as he looked at the woman in front of him.

"You know, we wanted to do this as humane as possible but your body is just to die for." He chuckled as a smiled began to sprawl across his face, "No wonder why Sebastian would kill for you."
