“This is beautiful”, I whispered.

I was mesmerized by Mother Earth's beauty. It was almost dusk and the setting sun reflected it’s light through the river making it shine like diamonds. The water dancing and giggling to the tickles of the wind was music to my ears. Who could believe that on one side of the river were tall buildings made by man and on the other was God’s created beauty.

“Whenever I needed to calm It, I would come here. The sound of the river silenced It”, he said. Looking at the river he continued. “Peace, in the middle of the city. Like the emptiness between all the voices in my head.” He chuckled.

I held his hand and continued to look into the beauty. It was dark when we left. The cool breeze caressing my skin as we drove back to our home. Soon I realized that we were heading on the wrong direction.

“Where are we going? I think we are on the wrong way.”

“It’s a surprise”, he said and his lips curved into a smile.

I couldn’t help but feel ecstatic. It was turning out to be one of the best days I had with him. Who would had thought so much could happen in a day. Just a few hours back, he had thrown me out of the house. After all there is always light after darkness and every nightmare did come to an end. If it was a dream, I wished for it to never end.

Though my heart was all praises for Ayaan, my mind wasn't convinced because it knew that everytime Ayaan did something nice after hurting me. He would hurt me twice as more.

“We have reached”, he said as he halted the car.

We stopped in front of a very beautiful two floor house. It was in the middle of a huge land surrounded by grass and trees. On one side of the house was the garage and on the other was a little slide and swing for kids to play, protected with fences. The house looked simple and yet beautiful. It screamed Ayaan. It was just as perfect as his closet. Maybe it was the place where we would be moving in. Maybe that was the surprise. I couldn’t wait to get in and see the place.

The place had been empty for a very long time. There was dust sitting all over the place. It seemed like the owners had left the house as is. There were magazines in the living room table and a mug.

The more I went in, the more I realized how beautiful the place would had been if only it was cleaned. I entered the kitchen and saw that there was a kettle on the stove. Something bad must had happened which made the residents to leave instantly. How tragic it must had been.

“Who lived here?”, I asked. I couldn’t help but feel bad for the people who lived there.

“Let me show you something upstairs”, he said and held my hand.

It wasn’t strange that he dodged my question. I had gotten used to it. Hoping that I would get my answers upstairs, I went with him. We went inside one of the rooms and it was spotless. It looked nothing like the house. It looked like it was still in use.

“This was our bedroom”, he said and moved towards the bed. “This is where I last saw her, the night before she ran away.”

I couldn’t believe that I was in Ayaan’s previous house, Ayaan and Inaya's previous house. He had maintained their bedroom to the very day and he visited the place everyday. Just the thought of it creeped me out. He was living the pain every single day, on purpose.

“I will never do that. I am not her.”

He thought for a moment and said, “Perhaps you’re right. You are not her, nor are you my Marwa.”
