With it being the next day, Nova went off to the Avengers Institution to see how Natasha was doing after she finished working out in the gym and hanging out with Miles.
And luckily, considering how late it was, Nova thought it would be a good idea to bring a couple of boxes of tacos with some fruit and a drink that she loved called horchata. Due to the fact that she knew Nat was most likely eating another peanut butter sandwhich.
Nova scrunched her nostrils at the thought of the sandwhich.
With her spare key, Nova entered the place and walked down the hallways, trying to find where Nat was but luckily she heard a couple of voices down in the meeting room.
She went down the hall and just as she was about to enter the room she saw holographic screens of Nebula, Rocket, Okoye, Carol, and Rhodey talking to Nat about what was going on.
She instantly stepped back and hid behind the corner to not intrude on the conversation,"So thanks for the hot tip" Rocket sarcastically spoke.
"Well you were closer" Carol said.
"Yeah, and now we smell like garbage!" Rocket replied.
"You got a reader on those tremors?" Nat suddenly asked.
Okoye nodded,"It was a mild subduction under the African plate."
"Do we have a visual? How are we handling it?"
Okoye raised her eyebrow,"Nat, its a earthquake under the ocean. We handle it by not handling it."
Nat went to open her mouth but Okoye suddenly began to speak again,"Nat, have you spoken or seen Nova?"
At the mention of her name, Nova raised her eyebrow curious,"We have been trying to get her to come back but she has suddenly fallen out of our charts."
Nat sighed,"The last time I saw Nova was..two years ago" she lied, making Nova relieved.
Yet Okoye nodded, with disappointment in her eyes.
For the past two years Nova stopped visiting Wakanda as she felt like it was too much for her to handle. After all, how could you visit a place that just reminded you so much of that person to the point that it hurt? So she ultimately decided that she wouldn't go back, and that it was best for them. What could a ex agent do for Wakanda? She was no queen or princess.
All she would be to them is a distraction and mess.
She just didn't understand why Okoye would want her to be back again.
"Carol, are we seeing you next month?" Nat questioned, quickly changing the subject.
"Not likely"
"What you gonna get another haircut?" Rocket gestured to her very short hairstyle.
Carol slightly glared,"Listen, fur face, I'm covering a lot of territory. The things that are happening on Earth are happening every where on thousands of planets."
Rocket looked away sheepishly,"Alright that's uh that's a good point.."
"So you might not see me in a very long time" she answered Nat.
Nat nodded looking down at her sandwhich before looking up at all of them,"Well this channel is alway active. So if anything goes side ways, anyone's making trouble where they shouldn't comes through me."
The others nodded, agreeing. With her hearing the screens being turned off, Nova stayed behind the corner as she noticed Rhodey still standing there looking at Nat.
Nat frowned, wondering why he still was on,"Where are you?"
"Mexico, the uh federal has found a room full of bodies looks like a bunch of guys who never were able to get their guns out first" he answered crossing his arms.
Nat sighed,"Its probably a rival gang."
"Except it isn't" He argued,"Its definitely Bart."
Nova bit her lower lip, worried.
"What he's done here, what he's been doing for the last few years, I mean the scene that he left..I gotta tell you apart of me doesn't even wanna find Bart" he confessed causing Nova to shake her head, with her eyes shut.
Nova didn't want to imagine the things Bart was doing to innocent people. She knew it wasn't him. He was her brother for god sakes. He wasn't violent and ruthless. He was protective, warm, full of love.
And she wanted nothing more to have him here, in her arms to comfort him.
"Will you find out where he's going next?" Nat said after a moment of silence.
Rhodey then sighed,"Nat.."
"Please?" She almost begged, making Nova want to get out of her corner and comfort her. She could hear it in Nats voice that she too was worried for Bart.
Rhodey nodded, ultimately agreeing. He logged off the chat as the holographic screen shut off.
Nova looked to Nat as she put her hands in a praying position with her forehead scrunching up. She could see Nat trying to fight off the tears that were threatening to come down.
Nova slowly got out of the corner and walked to Nat. Nat stared up at Nova in shock as she put the bag of food on the table.
"How long have you been here?" Nat questioned, wiping a tear that fell down her cheek.
"Long enough to hear all that" Nova answered, sitting beside her. Nat slowly nodded, unsure of what to say,"I miss him too you know" Nova whispered to her, afraid that if she spoke of him at a higher volume her voice would crack and she would break down.
Natasha nodded, with tears forming in her eyes again,"He's hurt, Nova"
The girl nodded knowing that Bart wasn't lucky when Thanos snapped his fingers. He lost his whole family. His two sons, his daughter and wife.
And the thought of him crying to himself and being in pain made Nova want to cry her emotions out again but she was trying her best to hold her emotions in for the sake of Nat,"I know, but we'll find him and be there for him cause we're family and we stick together" she assured, bringing Nat into her arms who didn't fight back and hugged her as she quietly cried into her neck, with Nova wondering where the answers to her prayer were for this sadness to finally end.
