Maya's POV
Riley and I got rejected, wait, no, I didn't even try to get in the cheerleaders team, let's just say Riley didn't get in. Now we're at the subway to go home, and by home I mean hers.
"Well, another year we're not going to be cheerleaders" I sigh
"Why do you make me do these things? Pom-poms are stupid and pyramids made of humans freak me out. And what are these?" I ask while looking down.
"These are your legs"
"Have you ever seen anything so white?"
"One time when I looked into the sun"
"These need to be put away. We have to go to Demolition right now and get clothes. Because you know they're gonna find out we took these things"
"But my curfew's in fifteen minutes" is she serious?
"But they're having a sale. Vintage t-shirts"
"Ooh, I do love t-shirts that other people have already loved"
"You are the only person I know that has to be home by seven"
"It's ridiculous. They treat me like a baby"
"Who?"
"Ma-ma da-da. It's time I was treated like the woman I am. I am going to Demolition!"
"That's the spirit!" I take a deep breathe
"You're not really coming, are you?"
"Nah. Wait. You know what? I am. I am old enough to stay out past seven o'clock. What's the damage for this, in your professional opinion?"
"Broken curfew? Chump change. Whole thing blows over by Wednesday."
"Worth it! Let's do this!"
"Great! See you Wednesday"
"I'm singing go-o-o-o" We finally go in and buy a few shirts, the majority chosen by moi obviously.
"Oh my gosh my parents are gonna kill me" Riley is panicking while we're walking back home
"Just chill" she opens her apartment's door
"I'm late, I'm late, I know I'm late!"
"Seven minutes" Mr. Matthews replies while looking at the clock. Oh no, I have to be a better bad influence. I turn her around
"Say nothing. Keep walking"
"No. This is a thing. Deal with your bad girl"
"Okay, where were you?"
"Demolition. It's an alternative store. Where rebels go! And I bought this t-shirt I don't think you'll entirely approve of" she shows it to her parents
"Bleh!"
"Edgy"
"Uh, Riley, what's going on?"
"I am too old for a seven o'clock curfew. I reject it! Reject it! Reject it! Won't even respect it!"
"Didn't make the team again, huh?" Ms. Matthews is smart, very smart
"No!"
"Every year"
"Okay, look, Riley, your father and I gave you a 7:00 curfew because we knew that even when you got all rebellious you'd still be home by 7:30."
"What?"
"Yeah. So when you come in here at 7:07 acting all dangerous, it's hard-" he starts laughing
"I'm sorry. I can't even keep a straight face"
"What are you laughing at? I'm outta control!"
"Maya, you couldn't keep her out any later than that? I mean, what kind of bad influence are you?" he's right!
"I gotta up my game" I start walking out of their apartment but see a few coats hanigin' so I take a couple of them
"This'll look great in my room" at least I'll be warm. When I come home I receive a text from her asking me if I could help her babysit Auggie tonight. Ugh, I love that little brat so I say yes. I'm not the best babysitter ever but I can be an amazing buddy to play games with. When the night comes I leave home with one of the coats I took earlier and buzz the intercom
"What up, weirdos?"
"Come on up!" I take the elevator and open the door. As I enter I see Elliot but decide to ignore him"Red planet diaries!" I scream while sitting between Riley and Auggie, is still awkward between us after I 'broke up' with him
"Ooh! Tonight's the season finale!" he shouts, is he serious? I keep ignoring him and sing the intro
"Previously, on "red planet diaries"
Oh, blarg. I know I'm from earth and not used to your martian customs yet, but I think I'm in love with your other head" no way!
"But what's he have that I don't have?"
"Uh, I'm right here" Auggie stands up and says something before walking away but I just focus on the TV.
"I don't think she will end up with the second head, I think she's driven by passion but she actually loves Blarg's" Elliot whispers to me
"I-I agree with you. I don't know"
"Sometimes people let themselves go for stupid reasons"
"Yeah, and you're an expert on that, aren't you?" he rolls his eyes in annoyance
"Riley, will you shut up? We're talking"
"Maya, do you wanna watch the season finale or talk with a fool like Elliot?" I shrug
"Let's all just shut up""Oh, Blarg's other head, if only we could run off together, without - You know -"
"Actually, there is a way"
"What is it?!"
"No!" Everyone screams when Auggie shuts down the tv
"No more TV!"
"Auggie, we were watching that"
"Give it back, runt!" I order him
"You're a runt! And you're the worst babysitter in the world! You shouldn't watch TV and fight for Maya when you babysit your brother! Plus, she isn't forced to talk to both of you! She's mature enough to make her choices alone!"
"We weren't fighting for Maya's attention at all!" Elliot replies and Auggies rolls his eyes
"Riley literally made her choose between you and the TV, don't tell me that's not jelaousy!" he walks to the window with the remote control
"Auggie, where are you going with that?"
"I'm going to throw it out the window!"
"You wouldn't dare"
"I will do it! I will do it, lady!"
"You turned it off at the best part. Easy there, put the remote down nice and easy - and nobody gets hurt, buddy" I say casually, I gotta watch the finale!
"You're not my buddy. You shouldn't even be here"
"Auggie, what's the matter with you?"
You're what's the matter with me. You know what, Maya? You can have Riley and Elliot. They'd rather be with you anyway. You're their sister now" he runs back to his room
"Auggie!"
"This is the worst night ever!" I sigh, now that all of this is over I can feel a lot of tension between all of us
"Bay window?" I ask Riley, I can't be in the same room as Elliot.
"Sure" We walk to her room and I immediately feel relieved "Now we'll never know if Ashley the astronaut ends up with Blarg or Blarg's other head"
"Gee, if only something existed where we could type in a few words and..." I say while grabbing her laptop
"It's not the same! We were really looking forward to this night and Auggie ruined it"
"I think Auggie could say the same thing about me, Riley. He just wanted to spend time with you. You're really lucky to have that" I've never said it out loud but I've always wanted a baby brother, Auggie is the closest thing to that and I feel so bad for not letting him know how much I love him.
"I know. It's like we don't pay attention to the people who really care about us" Oh! Farkle appears from the window.
"Ladies!"
"Get lost, Farkle, we can't pay attention to you right now"
"But I feel like when we don't have school I'm not even part of the story"
"There's someone who really cares about me, and I'm not letting him know that I care about him too" he smirks
"Ooh, maybe I am part of the story"
"And I really love the little guy. And all he wanted to do was show me his room"
"How did you know?"
"I gotta go talk to Auggie" she walks out. Leaving me and Farkle alone
"Well well, alone at last" Just then Elliot opens the door
"Yes, you are"he replies and Farkle looks at me with a smile
"You know where to find me"
"Okay Maya! You have no curfew, right?" Riley asks me when she comes out of her brother's room
"Yeah, I don't have one"
"Great, go to Demolition and grab every pirate thing you can find!"
"Wha-why?"
"Just go! And hurry up!" she drags me out of the apartment
"Wait, let me come with you" I frown
"Why should I?"
"Because it's late at night and it's dangerous, you might want someone to protect you"
"I can protect myself Elliot" he grabs his coat and comes out with me
"Keep telling yourself that, maybe someday you'l believe it" I roll my eyes but we head to the Demolition anyways and buy practically the whole store. During our walk to home things get more tense and awkward by every second
"So? How's life going?" he asks me
"Could be going better"
"Or worse"
"Stop being so optimistic"
"Only if you stop being pessimistic"
"I'm not pessimistic! I'm realistic" he chuckles
"Sure" there's a brief moment of awkward silence between the two of us
"So, I've noticed you didn't come to the school play even though I invited you..."
"Yeah I-I was very busy with Art stuff that day"
"The did the play all week"
"Uh-I-" I sigh
"I couldn't stand you and Missy, together, kissing, I'm sorry"
"You sound jealous" I turn around to look at him
"I like you Elliot" he smiles and this just breaks my heart because we can't be together
"Really? I like you too" It takes all of my strength to not smile back
"But we can't be together. I push away people" he frowns
"But-"
"I know that you're gonna say that you're willing to break all of my walls down but you won't. Nobody saw my true self, not even Riley. I don't want to trap you in a relationship with me. I want you to be free and flirt with every single Missy Bradford you want" he sighs
"Can I have one last kiss?" I blush
"Yeah, I guess so" I whisper while our fingers interlock and we kiss for the last time. One last kiss. No more of them for a very long time. I pull away for a brief second but quickly realize that I want this moment to last forever so I keep kissing him.
"You guys are back!" A familiar voice form above shouts at us. It's Riley. We immediately pull away. I just hope she didn't hear us.
"Yeah! Would you mind open the door? It's freezing here!"
"Sure!" We get inside the building and then the apartment
"Auggie is in my room. Give me the stuff" I hand her all the bags
"Woah" I chuckle
"Yeah"
"Did you buy the pirate costumes?" I nod
"Then go change" Oh no..."Arrgh!" I can't believe it, am I really a pirate right now?
"How did you do this?!"
"Demolition. Open late tonight and I have no curfew at all. Now, where's all your treasure, matey?" Elliot hands him a sword
"We're being boarded by blondebeard!"
"Oh! Thanks for letting me stick around tonight, Auggie"
"You're not such a bad pirate" I smile
"So, can we keep her? Yeah"
"But you and me are siblings again" I furrow my eyebrows
"Then who am I?"
"You're the one who walks the plank!"
"I can't swim!" Doesn't matter. I jump off his bed. I love this family so much!
