"I've never told anybody this before" I yawn, I'm very sleepy, I don't know how much time we spent talking but I didn't mind. He's a great guy

"I have this dream... It's really personal and I've always been scared of how people would respond to it"

"I want to be a Sherpa" I shake my head in disagreement
"Mmm, no, don't do that" Evan chuckles
"Yeah, I'm glad I told you"
"They're the people who take you up to Mount Everest, right?"
"And that's what I want to be. But not just some regular... 'Hi, I'm Evan your friendly mountain guide' I want to help people find their way to places they never thought they could reach" I see the light coming through the windows while I hear some birds chirping
"What's that, Sherpa?"
"That's morning" I frown
"Have we been talking all night?" he nods
"I had a wonderful time. Can we do it again?" I stand up, panicking
"No! No! We can't even do it the first time. Mr. and Ms. Matthews are going to kill me. They can never know" he looks at the couch
"You can never know!" Holy- what are the doing here?!
"You've been up all night!"
"How long have you guys been there?"
"We stayed up all night talking, too. Wanted to see what the big deal was"
"Was it a big deal?" Ms. Matthews nods
"Yeah. I like him now"
"What about you, Maya? Is it a big deal?"
"It was really great talking to you, Evan, but I have to get upstairs right now before-"
She's wearing the same clothes?" Riley says with a smirk while Elliot and Lucas glare at him
"Who's that?" Lucas asks while pointing at him, am I in trouble?
"While we're wearing new different clothes"
"Who's that?"
"She looks sleepy to me"
"Yeah, that one there, who is that?" Elliot asks in the same way as Lucas'
"You got caught, kid"
"You know what helps though?"
"Nothing"
"Yeah"
"Okay, this is ridiculous. Are you really going to make me explain myself?"
"Only if you want to" Riley replies with a smile
"Yes" Lucas responds, much harsher
"Okay, then fine. I have this boot on. I couldn't spend all of my energies hiking with you guys so I decided to stay up for a while. Then Evan showed up and we started talking. And you know what? I'm glad he started the conversation because I felt very lonely since you've abandoned me all day" Elliot replies to me
"It's not their fault if you fell of the bus because of me" I sigh
"I know Elliot, I wasn't trying to blame anybody and there's nothing bad if I want to talk to someone, right?" I hug Riley
" What do you want to do today, Riles?"
"It's not about today. It's about last night" I roll my eyes at the cowboy
"All we did was talk"
"Okay" I frown
"Lucas, I'm not allowed to talk?"
"Sure you can. You can talk to whoever you want, Maya" he walks away, is he being serious right now?
"Elliot?" he shakes his head
"I stand with Lucas in this one, too" What? Why? What did I do? We just talked.
"Riley..."
"I'll take care of my brother. It'll be fine" She follows her brother
"I'm really sorry, Maya. But I did really like staying up with you all night"
"Thank you, Evan. I did too. You're really cool" Smakle, Zay and Farkle join the conversation
"You're wearing the same clothes"
"You look sleepy to me"
"Who's that? That one there. Who's that?" I sigh and walk off to find Lucas. We need to talk things out. I find him near the fireplace
"Look... I know you lose your mind over me in front of the firelight, but is it cool if I sit down?" he chuckles
"You can take your chances"
"You know that I was just talking to that guy, right?"
"I know. I saw"
"I've got that big, clunky boot on, okay? I probably have trouble falling asleep anyway. So all I did was stay up and talk to some guy"
"Would you stop saying that?" He's clearly irritated by what I just said
"Why? Why does it bother you that I talked to someone?!"
"'Cause I'm jealous Maya!" his voice yells at me, slightly scaring me
"Are you happy?" I take his hand
"Lucas..." he sighs
"I'm sorry, Maya. Just go talk to Riley, I need to cool down, okay?" I nod and sit on the bay window where I find her
"What are you protecting me from?"
"Why is Lucas jealous?"
"Why'd you want to be me, huh?"
"Because you're the best person I can ever be and I was scared"
"You were scared?" I nod
"Of what?"
"I don't know. Okay? All of a sudden we're in high school. We're feeling things, we're growing up. We're letting boys into our lives and you know how I feel about emotions, I-" she smiles and completes my sentence
"Hate them"
"This? This is a game we're going to play" I hear Evan say to Elliot, Lucas and Josh and decide to walk over there with Riley. I love games
"We've had it behind the counter for years. Yeah, I'm going to read you come questions from this book. It's called the Official Guide to Who Belongs With Who"
"The book's gonna tell us?" Mr. Matthews walks in the room
"No! I remember that book. That book is evil. The first question is, 'if you could change your mate into one animal, what would it be?' And the only answer is, the falcon"
"How do you know that?"
"Because I am the falcon!"
"Of course, you are"
"Let's play" Smakle, Farkle and Zay join us
"Let's find out who belongs with who?"
"No one ever listens to the falcon. You all deserve what you get" Mr. Matthews storms away
"Question number one... If you could change your mate into one animal"
"It's not even the same question"
"Why not?"
"Because this is Who Belongs With Who, The Next Generation. This question's for you guys"
"Oh"
"The most important part of any meaningful relationship is, A, romance..." Riley smiles
"Yes, romance. Isn't that the whole point of a relationship?" Farkle corrects her
"It says any relationship, it doesn't just mean you guys and Lucas"
"Yeah, it also means relationships with your friends"
"So if the answer isn't romance, then what else you got?"
"B, adventure-" I interrupt Evan
"Yes, adventure. Break the rules" Lucas rolls his eyes
"You don't have to break the rules to have an adventure"
"What do you have against breaking the rules, Ranger Rick?"
"That's who he used to be, Maya. Cost him a year of his life. I think maybe he's learned something"
"Read the other choice"
"How do you know there is one?" he asks Smakle
"In multiple choice there are always the answers that are close, but then there's the correct answer and as soon as you hear it, you know it's right. And I don't think we've heard the right answer yet, so I know the most meaningful part of any relationship is C. Next question"
"Can we please hear what C is?"
"C, conversation"
"Ding!" Smakle wants to high- hive her boyfriend but he hugs her instead
"Even better. I love these now" I smile. I want a relationship like theirs, no problems.
"How come?"
"Because Smackle and I have had so many good conversations now that I think she trusts me"
"I do. I like these, too"
"So the most meaningful part of a relationship is talking to each other?"
"And with the right person, sometimes you can talk all night" Lucas takes a deep breath
"Yup, maybe so. Well, if y'all will excuse me, I'm gonna go over there and maybe, I don't know, kick a tree?"
"Yeah, I think I'm gonna join him"
"Will y'all excuse me? I'm going to go over there and maybe, I don't know, save a tree" Zay stands up and follow Elliot and Lucas
"You know? I'd go too but I wanna see where this is going" Josh says with a chuckle and Evan starts reading again.
