Maya's POV

Another day of school, another boring day, am I right? "Dad, are you out of your mind?" Never mind, Mr. Matthews just came in a rush with his daughter in his arms, interesting
"Riley. It's time for the talk" Oh! Forget what I said earlier, this is gonna be fun
"In front of the whole class?" I laugh, what does he know about all that stuff?
"Yeah, give her the talk let's see what you know"
"Okay. When a daughter-"
"Stop" he turns around and notices that Lucas is about to enter the class
"Excuse me" he says to us before rushing to close the door
"Not today, Chachi" weird, what did the cowboy do? I don't care, it's none of my business. Wait, he opens the door with Cory behind it, not impressive at all considering his muscles
"Sir, you've known me all year. You like me, admit it"
"I don't wanna"
"I'm one of the good kids. What are you so afraid of?"
"Okay" he erases the word 'Belguim' off the chalkboard, making Farkle scream in anger
"Okay, guys. It's the seventh grade spring fever, which leads to dating, which leads to movies, which leads to popcorn, which leads to putting your hands together in the dark touching popcorn, which leads to holding hands, which leads to that!" he points at Yogi and Darby, I mean, I wouldn't mind having someone to do those things with...
"Oh, I am not ready for this" he picks up Yogi and separates him from Darby
"Come with me. Come Here. Come on, no, come one. Come with me. Riley, I am begging you stay in Neverland, okay? No growing up" At the end he places Yogi on his desk and Farkle raises his hand
"What do you want?"
"The way I see it, i'm in an interesting position here"
"How do you figure Farkle?"
"Let's approach this as a scientific equation. You're scared of Lucas going out with Riley, right?"
"Oh, does it show?" Yes sir, very much
"Yeah, He's good looking and athletic" he's not wrong but he left the 'hot' word out
"He's thirthy six!"
"Give your daughter to me. I'll Give you four oxen and my best milking cow" Riley frowns
"Are you actually thinking about this?!"
"It's a good deal" she stands up
"I will decide who I go on my first date with at such time as somebody asks me" at that moment Lucas raises his hand, right, I should've expected this. No way he was gonna ask me instead, I mean, he deserves to be with someone as perfect as he is...
*After History class, in the school's hallways*
"Why do you think he out his hand down?" she asks me and I sigh
"Because your dad wouldn't call on him" I fake laugh
"And I don't think he ever will again"
"Life used to be so simple, Maya. Wake up, Brush my hair, Eat cereal, Pick up the bowl of cereal that I dropped"
"When did all of this pressure happen?"
"Boys have it easy, they get to ask. Oh yeah, they wouldn't last a day in our shoes. Waiting for them to get the courage to ask us"
"And then doing the vacuuming and ironing the babies. Riley, this isn't the 90s anymore. You want something you go get it" Even though I like Lucas I push her because I know that they're meant to be, no doubt about it.
"You're telling me you're not a little bit afraid of this?"
"No" Hell, I'm scared as hell right now
"You're saying that if you had feelings for somebody that you wouldn't be nervous?"
"No, the only thing that makes me nervous is that the thing that everybody wants to happen never happens because everybody's too afraid to make it happen" she frowns, do I have to? I take a deep breath and approach the boys
"Hey Ranger Rick"
"Hey, other one" Yup, that's what I am, the other one. Who is Maya Hart? Nobody.
"You wanna go out with me?"
"What?"
"Do you wanna take me to a movie and put our hands in the popcorn at the same time and see what happens, or what?" Did I really say that? No, it can't be!*hours later, Riley's bedroom*
This is it, I'm dead, dead! I climb through the window and find Riley with her jaw to the floor so I try to close her mouth but she just hisses at me and almost bites me
"Yeow!"
"Back traitor" I roll my eyes
"Traitor, Me? Could this possibly be because I asked Lucas out?"
"You asked Lucas out"
"What? You're upset?"
"I'm beyond upset. I'm whatever the next one is."
"What you think he's cute?"
"He's a'ight"
"What? You wanted him to ask you out?"
"Maybe, but now you ruined my eight-year plan""Riles, you've been all goofy about Lucas since the day you fell in his lap on the subway""You pushed me"
"And now I have pushed him" she raises her eyebrows, poor little thing, she has no idea of what's happening
"What do you mean?"
"Don't worry about it"
"I am worried. I am worried about our friendship which you called into question on this day"
"Oh, all right, you want to ask each other questions? Go ahead"
"Why did you ask him?" Because I like him
"How long have you known me?"
"Where are you taking him?" I wish we could go somewhere but we can't because you have to be with him!
"You think I would hurt you?"
"What are you gonna wear?" Maybe a white bride dress someday, okay no, never, love sucks, it disgusts me
"You don't think I have a bigger plan?"
"Can I at least be your maid of honor?"
"Of course, when I marry anybody else in the world besides Ranger Rick" she scoffs
"What? You're just going to date him and then throw him away?" Trust me, I'd keep him tied to me, he's the best guy I've ever met. Cute, Kind and smart, the whole package.
"Hey, Whack job?"
"Yes?"
"He doesn't want to go out with me. He's not going out with me. He's never going out with me" Wow, saying that hit me hard, very hard.
"Well, if he doesn't want to go out with you, do you not want me to go out with him?" I sigh
"Come here" she rests her head on my shoulder
"Life is changing isn't it?"
"Yes. But this isn't though" Not yet at least. Oh! The doorbell rings, perfect, he's here.
"Who's that? I wasn't expecting anybody" I smirk
"Oh, I was" we walk to the living where Mr. Matthews opens the door, revealing the cowboy
"You" he mimics him
"Me"
"Auggie's not home right now"
"Yeah, I'm not here to see Auggie"
"Riley's not home either" What a fool
"Hi, Lucas"
"That's right, I lied right in yo' face"
"Actually, Mr. Matthews, I'm not here to see her either" what?
"You're not?"
"You're not?"
"I want to do this the right way. So first, I'm here to talk to you, Sir" Aww, I wonder who he would ask the permission if he'd date me. My mom? Nah, she's always at work, dad? What? He's gone. What if wrong with me? Looking at his beauty makes me loose brain cells.
"What did you do?" Elliot asks me, whispering in my ear
"I asked Lucas out" his smile falls and I nod
"Yeah, but not for that reason"
"I'm confused"
"I pushed him so that he could date Riley"
"But I thought you had a crush on him" I shush him
"I did, but her happiness is far more important"
"You know, it's okay to be selfish sometimes"
"Are you saying that I should've asked Lucas out for real"
"Absolutely not"
"But you just said-"
"Yeah, but I don't like him so you can't date him" I raise my eyebrows
"Are you trying to give me an order?" he chuckles
"Just start putting your happiness first from time to time, okay" I smile and nod
"I'll try" our conversation is interrupted by Mr. Matthews slamming the door but the cowboy opens it again
"Mr. Matthews, would it be possible to speak with you alone?"
"About homework?"
"No"
"About a grade?"
"No"
"Then this has nothing to do with me and you've come to the wrong place. Good day"
"Actually-"
"I said good day, sir"
"But I need to talk to you"
"Is this about a historical event? I can only speak to you about historical events"
"Yes"
"Well, then go right ahead"
"I'm asking you permission to ask out your daughter"
"You tricked me!"
"That's right. I lied right to yo' face"
"Get him, Topanga" she smiles and walks up to him
"My pleasure. Lucas, you are about the most charming young man I have ever met"
"Yeah!"
"But as delighted as I am that in this day and age you would come to get our blessing. Do you really think Riley is ready-" her daughter interrupts her
"Yes!"
"Riley, Be cool"
"Yes"
"Topanga, we really need to talk" Is sigh in defeat, do I really have to do everything by myself?
"Mr. Matthews, we really need to talk"
"Good help me"
"When a father turns a certain age, things will start happening to you that you don't understand. It'll confuse you, but it's a magical time"
"Shut up!"
"Look, don't worry. This is all normal and it's just your body's way of telling you that you are a woman" I poke him
"Look, If it makes you feel any better, don't think of it as a date. Think of it as a beautiful fantasy world that only includes the two of them and not you anymore" Ms. Matthews wraps an arm around me
"I appreciate you, Maya. I think you're pretty fierce" Yes! I'm fierce! There's nothing that can tear me down in this moment!
"Hey, Kiddies" Never mind, Josh just came in looking cute as ever
"Uncle Boing" I almost fall, but Topanga catches me. Dang it, I have to be more discrete about this...
"Thank you, I'm good" I say with a faint smile
"I'm joining N.Y.U. Pre-college program so i'll be here all summer" I shake my head
"Okay, I'm not good" My legs go numb again and Ms. Matthews catches me for the second time in under a minute
"I gotcha, honey"
"Josh, would you do me a favor and explain to your niece that she is way too young to go out on her first date?"
"Niece, what kept you going so long? Welcome to the party, guys. Enjoy" he bumps Riley closer to Lucas
"Get out of my house!"
"I'll go to the party with you, Josh" Okay Maya, close your mouth, you're saying too many stupid things
"Still too old for you, Maya" I loose myself, I have no control over my body and mouth, they're doing what they want
"Three years, what's three years in the history of love? They found some cavemen footprints, a man and a woman, they didn't know how old they were. All the scientists could tell was that they were holding hands. You now why? That was all that was important" Too close, I'm too close to him. I have to te get away from here as soon as possible
"Wow, Maya" his eyes, bright blue, they keep staring at my soul.
"Keep looking at me" At this point Elliot pulls me behind him, sort of in a protective way
"Oh, you know what's really important is I have my first appointment with my campus advisor downstairs" he runs away and slams the door behind him. Great job Maya. I keep scaring people away from me.
"So, I have everybody's permission except Mr. Matthews?" technically, you still don't have mine but go ahead I guess
"Lucas, I like you. I really do. But do I look like the kind of guy that would let his child go out on a date this young?" Farkle enters. I swear they have to start locking their door
"Greetings, Matthews, I've come to ask Riley out on her first date now that Maya has asked out Lucas"
"What? Why would you do that?" Mr. Matthews looks at me with surprise
"Because nobody does nothin'"
"You lit the fire, huh?"
"Somebody had to push these two kids together"
"Have I told you lately I think you're pretty fierce?" I smile while Riley wraps an arm around me

"What's going on?"
"What's going on, Farkle, is that this kid here wants my blessing. You want it, Lucas?"
"I do, sir"
"Then you got it"
"Really?"
"Really?!" We all shout in unison, that was...unexpected
"On one condition"
"Uh-Oh"
"I want this to be a double date. Okay? If you are gonna go out with him. Then you are gonna go out with him" he turns me around so that I'm looking at Farkle, oh god, no way!
"Wait, I volunteer!" I'm sorry, are we at the hunger games?
"What?" Topanga asks
"Yeah, I can go on a date with Maya, plus, Riley will be save with her bug brother beside her, right?" his mother is beyond shook, she must suspect something while Mr. Matthews nods
"Okay"
"What about me?"
"Get lost Farkle"
"Okay" he leaves, great, I'm safe.
"Dad, you can't just tell her who to go out with on her first date"
"Oh, don't think of it as a date, Maya. Think of it as a magical time and a journey to include" he does some weird noises, ugh.
"So-"
"Yes"
"Riley"
"Yes"
"I'll fix it" I say
"Would you like to go out with me?"
"Y-Y-Y-Yay!" I cringe, that was worse than my interaction with Josh
"I can't fix that"
"So, Maya-"
"No"
"Would you-"
"No" his dad warns me
"I mean it, Maya."
"Would you whatever he's doing with her?"
I look back to look at Riley, Lucas, and Topanga smiling at me "Yeah, fine" I can't believe it
"Perfect! Maya! Let's go to Mrs. Svorkis' Bakery, we have to decide a few things for tonight!" I don't even get to reply since she's already dragging me there.
We walk in. I can't wait to get a bagel! They're amazing here.
"I can't believe you'd let Elliot be your first date so Lucas can be mine. "
"Riles, I'm not gonna look at it as a first date. We hang out with Elliot all the time. This is just more hanging out"
"But he thinks it's date"
"Then this is just more Elliot thinking it's a date"
"Then does that mean that my first date with Lucas isn't actually a date?"
"No, no, your date with Lucas is serious right-of-passage, coming-of-age, growing-up stuff"
"Should I be scared?" I chuckle
"Of Ranger Rick? Sure, Honey you be scared as you like" I notice that she stops smiling
"Well, I don't think you need to be anywhere near that scared"
"We have to go"
"Why? We just got here" I try to turn around but Riley stops me
"Maya, please. Do you trust me?" What kind of question is that?
"More than anyone in the world"
"Then don't turn around"
"Okay, if you say not to, I won't"
"Let's go we start walking out"
"Oh, wait, I forgot. I'm still me" I turn around... I wish I hadn't. It's Josh, with a girl, awesome, at least for him. I look down
"You know what the best thing is about going out with Elliot?"
"What?"
"No matter what happens I won't get hurt" we puts an arm around me and we walk out. She leaves me at my home and I find it empty as usual. What a great day, wait, it's not over right. Right, the date. I put on a simple dress. Nope, I don't like it. I try something else on. Yeah, perfect.
I better pick Riley up. I head to her building and climb through her window
"All right, let's get this thing over with"
"Ay chihuahua" I frown
"What?"
"For someone who does not care you do look pretty ay "chihuahua"
"Yeah, I just figured even though i'm not counting this as a first date it seems like it's a pretty big deal for Elliot so I wanted to give him at least eighty-four percent"
"Good.So you're feeling better about my Uncle Josh?"
"No, that's just another lump of coal i'll bury deep in my dungeon of sadness next to my daddy issues and ballerina dreams" her mom looks at me sympathetically
"Maya, I didn't know that you dreamed of being a ballerina" Oh, no. I hate ballerinas
"I don't. I dream of ballerinas kicking me with their point toes while they're stabbing me in the face with their bun heads"
"Oh. Well, you look great"
"Thank you Ms. Matthews. Are you ready, Riley?"
"Sure" we walk to the subway's station where we find the boys. The only weird thing is that Elliot is looking at Riley with a protective expression while Lucas looks at me with an open mouth
"Hi"
"Hi" I roll my eyes. 'Hi'? Give me more guys! Actually, no, stay friends.
"You know Maya, Even though this just happened, there are some moments you know you're gonna remember forever. This is one of them" I blush but as I'm about to reply the subway comes and we get in.
"Well, this is pretty easy so far" Lucas smiles at her
"Because we're already friends"
"Let's always be friends no matter what, okay?"
"Yeah, first let's see what happens" I reply to Elliot
"Okay"
"I don't want to jinx this but it's just like us hanging out at school. What could possibly go wrong?" She and Lucas sit down. Right. What could go wrong? Yeah, forget what I said, Josh is here with the same girl. Out of all the places in the world, out of all the subways, out of every single person in this world he had to be here with her? Unbelievable.
"So, how's high school treating you so far?" I ask Elliot, I wanna forget about everything and spend some quality time with my friends.
"I thought it was going to be so much worse, it's actually pretty cool" he notices my humor and notices Josh as well
"Hey, wanna know a way to make him jealous?" I sigh
"Not now Elliot" he takes my hand
"Come on" he kisses me but I pull away immediately. I'm not really in the mood. I get that he wanted to help me but that was not necessary
"Dude!" Lucas says in rage. Why is he so angry?
"She said no! Respect her" Woah, I've never seen him this angry, that's kinda hot
"Man, calm down a little"
"I won't!" Okay, it's not hot anymore since I feel like they're gonna punch themselves at any given moment
"Guys, it's fine, let's all just calm down" I look at both of them
"I don't know why you don't like each other, you're pretty similar. Why don't you talk about your problems and resolve this thing? I don't like seeing you fight constantly, nobody does" I see that they start to calm down but I also notice that the girl leaves after her conversation with Josh, leaving him alone, he seems sad so I walk up to him
"Maya?"
"She pulled the three-years-older thing on you, huh?" he chuckles
" Yeah yeah. I really put myself out there"
"Oh, I'm sure I couldn't possibly identify with your pain" I sit next to him
"Cavemen? Footprints? Hold hands?"
"Hurts, doesn't it?"
"A little bit, yeah"
"How do you deal with it?"
"Well, me, I've got this dungeon of sadness"
"Oh yeah? You got me in there?"
"Oh yeah. you and a whole flock of ballerinas"
"So, you and Elliot-"
"Oh, no. That wasn't-I-"
"Let me guess, he kissed you but you didn't want to so your other friend -who is on a date with Riley- got angry and started yelling at him and you, being the good pacifist you are, tried to fix things between them and saw me in the meanwhile so you decided to give them some space by coming here and talking to me"
"Wow, how do you know so many things?"
"I like observing people" the subway stops
"Gotta go now" he walks away and Riley approaches me
"What happened to your date?" I ask her
"We had a good time and then my best friend got all needy"
"Yeah, I know how that goes" I giggle
"Thanks for being there for me"
"Hey, I'm sure you'll make it up to me someday" I smirk
"How about now?" I unlatch Riley's hand from the bar she was holding to
"Again? Whoa!" She falls into Lucas's lap
"Hi, i'm Riley. We were just talking about you" he laughs
"I'm Lucas"
"I love it. You know those moments that you were talking about that we're going to remember forever?"
"Yeah?" she grabs his face and kisses him. Even though I feel jealous I'm happy for them, it's what they deserve for each other
"I'm sorry Maya, for before, I shouldn't have" I smile sympathetically at Elliot
"It's fine. Just don't do it again"
"I won't. I promise"
"Did you solve your conflict with the cowboy who is smooching your sister?" he chuckles
"Yeah, I did. Thank you"
"For what?"
"If it wasn't for you we'd still hate each other" I smile
"I'm glad I helped you"
