Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of Paco's Taco's and I need to lay my hand on those tacos, they're the best thing ever. Still, I have to go with Riley and Elliot so I had to train them.
"Tomorrow morning, the sun rises at 6:17 a.m., at which time we will leave the house so we are first in line for the most important day of our lives"
"Maya, they're just tacos" I'm sorry, what? I frown
"What?"
"Is it necessary that we are first in line?"
"I would regard not being first in line as my greatest personal failure since not understanding fractions!"
"They're just parts of a number" but they're so confusing though!
"Well, parts? When would I ever need numbered parts?"
"How many tacos are you having?" I sigh
"Eight isn't enough, but nine is too many. There's no solution"
"Yeah"
"Okay, we took our showers and put on our clothes for tomorrow, so we're all ready to go when the sun comes up" she hugs hear bear
"Barry-the-Bear Bear's excited too. I love you, Barry"
"Okay, we are all set to go, so nothing can go wrong. Will there be any stops in Rileytown?"
"Sir, no, sir!"
"Where will the only stop be?"
"Paco's Tacos! For their-"
"25th Anniversary 25-cent Tacopalooza!" she chuckles
"Who else would get this crazy?" after she finishes her sentence Elliot storms in the room
"Tacos!"
"Tacos!" I repeat after him
"Tacos!" we shout in unison
"How many ya want?"
"Eight-and-a-half!" You can't have eight-and-a-half tacos! You can only eat eight or nine! He sits next to Riley on her bed
"Okay, tell me the rules. One"
"We will not fall and break something and have to go to the hospital"
"Two"
"Riley will spend as little time in the hospital as possible"
"Three"
"I will not check my phone or read a story about a three-legged puppy and become inconsolable" Elliot whimpers and sobs. I'll never understand why this family is so emotional
"What, does he just fall over or what?" some festive Mexican horns song plays on my phone an I pick it up
"Paco's Tacos: Taco Alert from Paco's Tacos! 25-cent Tacopalooza all day tomorrow while supplies last! First 10 customers get a Paco Taco Bobblehead" I let my phone fall
"I want that bobblehead!" I shout in a raspy voice
"Okay. We'll get it" Elliot stands up and cups my face
"I want it. It's a bobble... I'm gonna get it?" he guides me towards the bay window where I'll sleep to get out of the house faster
"Okay. You're gonna get it. You're gonna get the bobblehead" I nod
"I'm gonna get it!" we both lay down on the cushions while Riley will sleep on the bed. I swear the only person who understands my passion for tacos is Elliot.

*The next day*

I'm woken up by the sun rising. I gotta go! Elliot and I quickly uncover Riley to wake her up and start climbing out of the window
"Go, go, go, go, go!"
"Wait!" she shouts when Elliot and I are half way out
"No!"
"Something's-"
"No!"
"Wrong" we groan and come back in
"Barry-the-Bear Bear! He's gone!" Elliot sighs
"Come on, that stupid bear has been hanging on by a thread for years! How is this a problem?!"
"I've had him all of my life, Maya. Where is he? We have to find him" she whimpers
"Barry"
"Bobblehead" Elliot and I say together.
I can see Riley is on the verge of crying, I guess I'll just have to give up the tacos for her, am I right?
Riley takes an air horns and runs to the living to blare it
"Matthews family emergency!" Auggie, Mr. and Ms. Matthews come in, running
"Did you get my tacos?!"
"No"
"Why not?"
"Barry-the-Bear Bear is missing!"
"Ah, that bear has been hanging on by a thread for years"
"Everybody knows this"
"Riley, why can't you just look for Barry-the-Bear when you get back?"
"Oh, sure. He's just missing. It's your day. I'm sorry. Let's go, go, go, go, go" she starts dragging me and Elliot away. Yes!
"You sure you're okay?"
"I'm sure I'm not okay"
"The last thing I said to him was: I wish you were a Slinky" Elliot chuckles
"Riley, he'll show up. It's not really a big deal" Oh, no! She slams the door
"Let's see what happens now"
"Not a big deal?" I run towards Elliot to choke him but he throws himself to the couch
"I messed up. I messed up. Sorry"
"A teddy bear is a source of joy and comfort and security and love. Barry was my childhood. Everything I went through, he went through. My childhood is missing" someone knocks the door and she opens it, revealing Lucas, Farkle and Zay.
"What are you guys doing here?"
"We were told there would be tacos"
"Three tacos please" Zay raises his hand
"Uh, may I have pancakes?"
"You called them here?" I nod
"I invited them here. I wanted them to know what it's like to want a taco and not get a taco" I actually invited them here as an excuse to see Lucas. We're doing pretty well as a couple so far. I'd kiss him if I could right now but I need to contain myself.
I hear my phone buzz and pick it up What could be worse than that, you
"The bobbleheads are gone!" Elliot and I hug while sharing a few sobs. I wanted that bubblehead!
"So... we're all here to look for your childhood teddy bear that Auggie chewed the face off of?" the little boy sighs
"Oh boy. Will we never let that go? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I was just a little kid. I ate anything that got in my way"
"Auggie, it wasn't very nice to eat Riley's bear. And in fact, you would think in doing that, that would teach Riley not to eat someone's cookie" she rolls her eyes
"Get off that"
"I do not wish to"
"That bear's been nothing but trouble for me my whole life. I just wanted you to play with me. I didn't do this" I walk up to him and grab him the the robe he's waring
"Oh, yeah? Then where were you the evening of the 15th?" Elliot asks
"I was out of town on business" I let him go
"He didn't do it, guys"
"You know what? If this means this much to my daughter, let's respect her feelings. Let's find that stupid, faceless bear"
"Y... you know, I... I would, but I... I got that big game with, uh, s... s... sports!" why is Farkle talking about sports?
"Yeah. Yeah, yeah, and I would too, but I got the, you know, the big... big science fair with, uh... I don't know" and why is my boyfriend talking about science?
"Why did you two switch characters?"
"We panicked! We're gonna be trapped in here looking for a stuffed animal!"
"We'll do anything to get out of it" Huckleberry smiles
"I know. Who's up for a taco?" I jump on his back
"Let's go cowboy!" he chuckles and kisses my cheek, making me blush.
"Well, I'll stick around here as long as it takes because I am a supportive friend" I get off of him
"Hey, Riley, what about just this once, I can be the unsupportive friend?" she nods
"Absolutely. Live your lives" Great! I open the door and Elliot follows me
"Oh, but before you go, one quick story"
"Hey, a story" he says sarcastically. I ignore her and keep walking but he drags me back in
"Once upon a time, there was a little, tiny Riley, and she was given a bear..." yeah, I don't pay attention, I just want my tacos
"...And the little girl loved the little bear for the rest of her little life" Elliot stands up
"Whoa! Great story! That was so good. Guys, let's go" everyone is looking down, sobbing and I sigh
"Oh no"
"We have to find that bear, you guys"
"Oh no" Elliot repeats after me and picks up his phone
"Everybody has gone Taco loco! I don't think there's anybody in New York City that doesn't have one of Paco's Tacos!" he starts crying and sits next to me
"You're wrong, Paco!"
"We have to find that bear, you guys"
"How is it possible that we can end up in a situation like this?" Elliot takes my hand and Lucas glares at us
"I don't know Maya. But the sooner we find it more chances we have to get a taco" I nod
"You're right" after that everyone starts looking for the bear except me, I already have a feelings that we won't find it anytime soon. I just sit on a chair and Zay joins me
"Hey" I smile at him
"Hey"
"Do you remember when I first got here and everybody was washing the car? You sat next to me on that bucket, you talked to me, I talked back to you?" I nod
"Yeah"
"Yeah. Do you remember how you were very nice to me but you didn't really know me, but you sat next to me and talked to me anyway?"
"Yeah. Did... did I say anything important?" he chuckles
"Didn't matter what you said. It was that you sat there next to me. That time where I was feeling like an outsider, I remember that. I appreciated that" he pats my knee
"Okay" he gets up and starts looking for that bear again, leaving me confused.
Elliot approaches me
"Maya, how are you doing?" I sigh
"I'm okay. How are you?"
"I'm feeling hopeful. If we find the bear then maybe we'll still have time to get some tacos" a thought crosses my mind
"Where's Lucas?" he smirks
"You mean... your boyfriend?" I punch his arm
"Shut up" he laugh
"He's in Riley's room" I raise my eyebrows
"All alone?"
"Yup"
"And your dad hasn't kicked him out yet?"
"Nope"
"Why?"
"Because he knows that they're just friends. If it were you and him I bet that he'd be back in Texas right now" we laugh
"So, how are things going with him?"
"Pretty well. He's so sweet and kind and-"
"Have you told him that you love him already?" I nod
"That was one of the first things I did" he nods
"Good. You know, he's really lucky to have you" I hug him
"Thank you, Elliot"
"Hey, just speaking the truth" the door opens and Josh comes in with a laundry bag
"Hey, family! Don't try to pressure me into staying for dinner. I'm just here to do my laundry. That's right. That's a thing now. I do my laundry here. Did you know?" he cringes
"'Cause now you know" Mr. Matthews opens his arms
"My brother!"
"My laundry!" he gives him his laundry and Mr. Matthews tosses it to his wife
"His laundry!" Ms. Matthews glares at him and he picks it up
"I'm sorry. I lost my mind. I will just take these to the creek and I will wash them myself" he leaves and looks around and walks up to me
"Maya" I smile
"Josh"
"Long game?" Right, I still haven't told him about me and Lucas
"Actually..." I feel a strong and muscular arm wrapped around my waist, it must be Lucas
"Hey baby, how are you?" I look at him with a smile
"I'm go-" he interrupts me and crashes his lips onto mine. When I try to pull away he tightens his grips and deepens the kiss. I bite his lip in an attempt to stop all the sounds that I wanna make to come out.
"Not in my house!" I immediately pull away but Lucas still hugs me
"Sorry Matthews"
"Stop hugging!" we pull away
"So, uhm, are you two dating?" I nod
"Yeah-"
"Yes, we are. I don't like to say that Maya is mine because it'd mean that she's an object but she's pretty much mine" I glare at him
"And I'm hers. We're together. Happily together" I can feel the tension between them so I try to change argument
"We're looking for Riley's lost teddy"
"Barry-the-Bear Bear? She's had that thing forever. You lost it?" my best friend smiles
"Yeah, but I think I'm ready to call Barry officially lost and head out for tacos" I smile widely
"No. Really? No" I'm gonna get my tacos!
"No, no giving up" I pout
"Yes, give up. Yes"
"No, it's important we find it"
"Why?" Auggie walks in
"Uncle Josh!"
"Mr. Auggie!" they hug and I can't help but smile. I love seeing these kind of family moments. Lucas holds my hand tighter, drawing circles on my palm with his thumb
"How's college?"
"Oh, dude, you kidding? Dude, you kidding? Dude, the people, the parties, you kidding, dude" Ms. Matthews frowns
"You want to stay here tonight?"
"Just a night? How about forever?" Josh sits on the couch
"Has it been a rough adjustment?"
"It was a rough adjustment for us in high school"
"What about college?"
"You think you're ready. You think you're ready" I sit next to him
"What's the matter, honey?" Lucas moves his head closer to mine
"We're gonna have a serious talk later" he whispers in my ear, giving me shivers all over my body
"I wasn't ready! It's hard. I wasn't ready. My roommate and I, we don't get along at all. And I don't think it's my fault. I think it's his fault. He says "schnoop-aloop" at the end of everything. Who does that? Now ask me a question"
"What time is it?" Zay asks
"11:15. Schnoop-aloop" have we been really looking for that teddy bear for over four hours?
"Ask me who I am"
"Who are you?"
"I'm Schnoop-aloop's roommate. You know what people say when they see me? They say, "Hey, that's Schnoop-aloop's roommate." My name is Josh. How did this happen to me? I'll tell you how it happened. I grew up. You know what I know? High school is you last stop before you grow up. So, you don't give up on that teddy bear. You hang on tight. You find that bear" I look down in defeat
"You understand what's important, Riley?"
"Yeah, I think I do. Lucas?"
"After you" they walk to her bedroom and keep searching for it.
