Melanie above

Riley

I sighed in content and snuggled into the warm blankets that surrounded me. Listening to the steady sound of my heartbeat in sync with the body tangled in mine. Wait. My eyes snapped open and I was faced with a bare and very muscular chest. The familiar sparks only affecting me now, as I was no longer in a drowsy state. Scrambling out of my mate's grasp only resulted in me falling off the bed onto the floor, which caused me to let out a pained moan. Suddenly I was pulled from the floor onto Dylan's lap, my head on his chest. "Are you ok? You're not hurt are you?" he murmured huskily. I nodded and tried to pry myself out of his arms, but they only tightened around me, making me gasp at the sparks that were sent through my spine. I could feel him smirk in my hair at the effect he had.

I couldn't help but lean into his touch, enjoying the feeling of being loved by someone other than my brother. "Why are you here?" I asked in a whisper, and I felt him frown in response. "You don't want me here?" he said, pain evident in his voice although he tried to hide it. My eyes widened in realization at what I had said.

"N-no! I do want you here" I said, turning around on his lap so I was facing him "I was just wondering why you were here." He smiled and nodded, bringing his face to the crook of my neck. "You were having a nightmare and we couldn't wake you up. Doctor Clarke had to sedate you."

Another nightmare. They were controlling my life, keeping me from peacefully sleeping without being put under. I was paranoid for nightfall, knowing that when I closed my eyes, my horrors would become a reality. They weren't dreams, no, they were every fear, every doubt I had about myself, about my family, come to life. When I was dreaming I felt the pain, the heartache of losing my pack. I saw his black eyes. The ones that murdered them. That's one thing I regret about that night. That I didn't kill the rogue king when I had the chance.

I was snapped out of my trance when I felt Dylan gently shaking me. "You spaced out for a second, are you ok?" he said. I only nodded, not wanting to talk about my terrifying thoughts. Looking down at my hand a blush rose to my cheeks. I was straddling him, legs wrapped around his waist as he sat against the headboard. Clearing my throat, I got off him quickly, which only made him chuckle. "Get ready and meet me down in the kitchen for breakfast" he said getting off the bed and making his way to the door, smiling at me before disappearing out into the hallway. I stood there for a few minutes before collecting myself and walking to the bathroom.

After I had showered, I made my way downstairs to the kitchen, thankfully remembering where it was from yesterday. Dylan was standing at the stove, trying to flip what looked like a pancake, although it was burnt and had a hole in it. I walked over to him and stood by his side, watching him try to make another one, only failing once again. "Are you just going to stand there or are you going to help" he said flatly, but I could see a smirk breaking out on his face. I giggled quietly and took the spatula from his grip, making our hands touch which sent sparks through my arms and butterflies to my stomach. Trying to keep a straight face, I continued his pancakes, resulting in an insulted sigh from him, and a mumble of how he could have done better. As I was flipping the last pancake, max came running into the kitchen.

"Ri ri!" he squealed, rushing over to hug my legs. "Hi maxy. How did you get down here?" I asked. I was sure he was asleep when I left, although I don't remember seeing him when I awoke in Dylan's embrace. "Melanie brought me down!" he said excitedly. Melanie? Just as I was about to ask who Melanie was, a girl about my age came into the kitchen. "There you are, you have to stop running I can't keep up with you" she said with a smile, then she turned to me, hand on Dylan's shoulder "You must be Riley. I'm Melanie, but you can call me Mel." I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. She was gorgeous, short auburn hair and golden eyes, I was nothing compared to her. She sat down next to Dylan after introducing herself, helping max onto a stool beside her.

"Hey monster. You hungry?" I asked, turning to my brother who was eying the pancakes eagerly. He nodded and reached for a plate that I had set down, grabbing three pancakes and stuffing them in his mouth. "Slow down bud, you don't want to choke" Melanie said, I refused to call her Mel, at least until I knew her relationship with my mate. "Hey Mel, have you seen lina, I want you girls to take Riley shopping" what Dylan said got my attention. "Mhm" she replied before swallowing her food. "She's in her room, I'll go get her" after Melanie left, I sat down and started to eat, still thinking of the way she had her hand on Dylan's shoulder.

"Hey, are you okay? you look like you want to murder the plate" he said, looking up at him I saw concern in his eyes. "I'm fine" taking a deep breath I built up my courage and asked him "so, who's Melanie?" I looked up at him and found him staring, eyebrows raised. "Are you jealous?" he asked with a smirk. No way, he would not try to embarrass me. "I'm not jealous!" I snapped, lowering my eyes to my hands, suddenly finding them very interesting before mumbling "I'm just curious" he let out a heartfelt laugh, sighing before speaking again "there no need to be jealous Ri I'm all yours" a blush coated my cheeks as he said that. I'm his. "And either way, that would be gross, she's my sister." My head jerked up at that, blush intensifying. I was most definitely embarrassed. Of course she was his sister. Before I could reply, Alina and Mel came into the kitchen, stopping when she saw the pancakes sitting on the island.

"Who made pancakes? And don't say it was you because I know you can't cook" she said turning to Dylan, who had a scowl on his face. "I did" I said quietly, although I know she heard me. After Alina ate the rest of the pancakes, she and Mel dragged me upstairs. We stopped on the second floor and they knocked on one of the doors. Before I could ask what was going on, Olivia answered the door and stepped out, dressed in a purple camisole and jeans. "Ok I got Lewis's credit card, you have Dylans?" she asked turning to Mel, who held up a black card with a smirk. "You guys ready to go shopping?" she said, a mischievous gleam in her eye.

This is definitely the last chapter until I get back. Sorry. Well, I hope you enjoyed.

In case you hadn't noticed from my lack of A/N. I'm not much of a people person. So for someone to read my story (even if you don't like it) is a huge accomplishment for me. Obviously, no one knows that I write, because I think my friends would tease me. Don't get me wrong they're great, its just I'm not really the type to actually write a story. It's nice to know that I can write my thoughts and people will actually read them and possibly enjoy them. It makes me feel good. Thought I should just, you know, put that out there.

Thank you
