sonic's gift

Dedicated to Pájaro- my pet bird who is no longer with us.

Keeping the island of Bygone safe was hard work but everyone seriously appreciated all they did.

Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Sticks and Amy were the town's heros who kept them safe from Eggman getting his way but all that work made a certain blue hedgie stressed never having time to relax.

one day though, Tails suprises him with a gift incased in a glass box that was wrapped in green wrapping paper hiding the cute critter inside.

"What's that?" Sonic asked referring to the box on the coffee table. He layed on their couch with his arm dangling to the side with his other one resting on his stomach. They just got done destroying Egghead's robots but even with victory on their side, Sonic still felt stressed and exhausted.

"It's my gift to you, something to help you relax and feel at ease." Tails said. "C'mon, open it."

Sonic groaned, that meant he had to sit up and he was seriously not looking forward to that but he managed and sat up right tearing at the paper. "What could possibly make me feel better other than a good fu- omygod!"

In the cage was little shreds of newspaper but in the center was the cutest thing he's ever layed his eyes on. His little black quills stood up as he snored softly with his head tucked in his arms. Sonic smiled the biggest smile and his eyes gleamed, it was love at first sight.

"What is it." Sonic asked looking down at it with his hands grabbing the corner of the cage, watching the cute sleeping creature.

"A regular hedgehog, i read online that having a pet to take care of is a good way of coping with stress and responsibility." Tails explained. "I think you two are gonna get along just fine."

"Hey little buddy." Sonic giggled picking the hedgehog up, he awoke once in Sonic's hands looking at him with small red eyes. Sonic pouted cutely and brought him close to his cheek closing his eyes. The little hedgehog closing his eyes as well and nuzzling the side of Sonic's face.

"He's adorable, i love him." Sonic chuckled. "Thanks Tails."

"You're welcome, since he's a hedgehog as well I'd say taking care of him won't be a hassle but just to make sure," The kit stopped talking to give him his tablet that had an article on hedgehog care. "Read this, it talks about basic hedgehog things like what they eat, sleep habits and so on. Oh and before i forget, whatcha gonna name him?"

"Hmm." Sonic hummed and took him in front of his eyes again, the black hedgehog looked back with curiosity in his eyes facitated his new owner was a hedgehog just like him. His black fur and quills told Sonic something about his personality, quiet and lonely, and that red strip that went from his top quills to his back made him so amazed he ran a finger over it making his new pet relax against the touch and close his eyes.

"Shadow." Was Sonic's response. It had a nice ring to it, it fit the hedgie well and he loved him from the moon and back but little did Sonic know that this small hedgehog would change his life forever.

And that's where our story begins...
