Saving The Day

It's game day, and I'm outside sitting on the bench. This sucks. Ash is training with our coach, and so is Alyssa. I grab my headphones and put them on, I hit shuffle on my phone. I watch all the girls warm up, and I look over to the stands. I see a few familiar faces. After warms up, we go back to the locker rooms. We dress into our kits. The lineups today walk to the tunnel to line up. They walk out and then the subs. They play the National anthems and shake hands. I just sit back and watch the game.

"I'm playing in the 2nd half" Alyssa tells me sitting next to me.

"Really? That's good. I'm glad." I tell her. This team has 3 amazing goal keepers, and unfortunately only one is used 95% of the time. Not being able to give the others an opportunity. We're into half time with 1 goal, by Tobin. Brazil's doing pretty good. We're in the locker room, getting Jill's lecture or whatever you call it. Carli walks over to me

"You look just like Hope when she was benched for Scurry" She tells me chuckling.

"Yeah but that was also Me with Hope, she was always the goalkeeper." I tell Carli. She nods understanding. I grab a bottle of water and hand it to her. She takes it and drinks out of it.

"It sucks being under her spotlight, and unfortunately it's still shining on her. People always questioning whether I'm good enough to replace her role. You may not agree, and I'm also not trying to be cocky but I feel like I'm a better goalkeeper then she was. She was amazing don't get me wrong but I know I'm better and I can be better." I tell Carli as I fiddle with my gloves. The ones I would have worn today. I've never looked up to a female goalkeeper, the National team has had good goalkeepers but I never saw the leadership from them. They just were there or very outspoken.

"Holland you are an amazing goalkeeper and between us, you are hands down the best goalkeeper this national team has ever had. You wear that #1 like it was destined to be yours." She tells me smiling. It's nice to have someone believe in you. Whether it's your teammates or family, but once you're in the goal line. You are all alone.

"Thanks, I'll keep it between us. Would hate to bust Hope's ego" I tell Carli chuckling and I wink at her causing her to smile and shake her head. We head back out to the field. They put in Alyssa, she walks to the goal line. I give her a thumbs up. She nods smiling. I feel someone tap my shoulder. I turn around to face Ashlyn.

"Lucy's here" she tells me smirking, and she points to the stands closest to us. I see Lucy and a couple of England players. Lucy looks fuckin hot, wearing her glasses and a white thin sweater and nice fitting Jean's.

"Ha oh you're sending her that look" Ashlyn says laughing. I lightly push her back into her seat. I wave to Lucy ! And she waves back smiling. I love her smile. Shes so graceful. I return back to the game. Once it's over, England takes the She Believes cup. I wanted it to be us but sometimes it doesn't go that way. I'm very proud of Lucy though. We go back to the hotel, and I just wait for Lucy. She's most likely celebrating with her teammates. I'm waiting in my hotel room. I'm starting to fall asleep.

"Wake up love" I hear someone say as they lightly shake me awake. I open my eyes to see Lucy. I look around the room, and I see Ash and Ali laying down on the other bed watching TV.

"What time is it?" I ask her as I stretch. She checks her watch.

"12" she tells me. Wow it's late but we have an off day tomorrow. I grab her cheek and I caress it, I give her a peck on the lips.

"Congratulations babe, you did so good!" I tell her and I kiss peck her lips repeatedly making her smile. She moves over and lays next to me. She wraps her arm around me. I lay back into her embrace.

"Since you'll be taking a flight to France soon. You'll probably get Sarah as your roommate, she doesn't have one. Which will be fine cause you're both goalkeepers." She tells me. Sarah is France's goalkeeper. She'll most likely be the goalkeeper they will use more frequently. I leave tomorrow to Lyon, France. I wrap my arm around Lucy's waist and I put my head on her shoulder.

"You're going to have to show me around Lyon" I tell Lucy as I play with her fingers.

"I will and you'll like it there" she tells me and she looks back at the Tv. We're watching river monsters. Lucy looks really intrigued.

"There's no way a sting ray can be that huge" she says in disbelief making me chuckle.

"That's what I said!" Ash speaks up. Making conversation with Ash. While Ali and I just watch the TV but at the same time just admiring our girls. Ashlyn tells Lucy a joke, making her laugh. The music to my ears. I kiss her jawline, and she smiles bigger. After an hour, Ashlyn and Lucy are talking about pretty much anything. Ali fell asleep, and I'm starting too also. I hold off for a little longer. The 3 of us get into a conversation, and we talk about the European league. I end up falling asleep.
