We're at the airport, and we're waiting for our flight. I'm sitting next to Lucy, I'm talking to her about some stuff.
"So her and Christen now? I thought she liked Alex?"
"Yeah but Tobin's stubborn, I told her to tell Alex how she felt but she hasn't. I don't know, maybe they're just friends and we're just teasing them. I know Tobin will be good for Alex." I tell Lucy as I scroll through Instagram. I see her nod from the corner of my eye. I keep seeing Preath on my feed. Our plane gets called and Lucy offers to take my carry on, we board the plane. I take a seat next to her. Parris and I exchanged seats.
"I have national duty in 2 weeks" I mention to Lucy.
"Who are you playing" she asks me
"The Maltidas"

"She was a very stubborn ambitious kid. Would never give up without a fight. Holland was the type of kid, that if challenged, would do it. Competitiveness is in her blood."
I was handed a picture of us when we were kids, I was wearing overalls and pink cowgirl boots. Then there was Holland, in her Air Jordans, with a baseball Cap and white baggy t shirt with shorts. It was right after church. She never liked dresses or skirts, always sporty clothes. My mom would argue with her until one day she just gave up. Holland and I have a very strong bond, she looked up to me so much. Oh gosh here comes the water works.
"It's not easy being the oldest one, because you have to set an example but it's like you don't have someone older then you to have taught you that, I never had an older sister to look up too. How to be a big sister, and also take care of yourself. Holland would wear my jerseys and, she would say she wanted be just like me."
I pause, and give myself time to breathe. I wipe the tears away. "I look over so much that she has done, inspiring others and fighting for such a big cause. I want to be like her. She's my role model. She doesn't say things, her actions speak louder then words. Always fighting for the underdog, never letting anyone get the best of her. She's a very passionate person, and the most forgiving person I know even to those who don't deserve it. Sometimes I get so upset with her because she's like really nice to people who are nothing but mean to her... I'm very glad that she's using the platform that she has to aspire younger girls for the better." I hand the picture back, and they play a video of her playing with Donavan, when he was much younger. It was the last time we spent Christmas together as a family. After the video ends, I'm already crying.
"It's crazy how 5 years can go by so fast. I remember that day, she has just got back from her season with her club. Everyone was at our house, celebrating. It was a good day to begin with, until things got a little heated." It was just weeks before my sister was going to her January camp with the National team. Months before the 2015 World Cup. My family knew from the start she wasn't going to get any playing time. We stayed quiet about it, expect for my mom.
"When everyone was getting ready to leave, my mom had asked Holland if she was going to be here for Rylies birthday. Holland had camp at the time. My mom would call her selfish, and tell her she was just wasting her time with the national team because they didn't need her. I remember Holland just staying quiet, she took her jacket from the hanger and left. We haven't had a Christmas with her since then, no Thanksgiving, no New Years Eve. Sometimes our birthdays"

The plane arrives in France, just in time for us to rest up. It's 9 PM. Sarah, and I pile into Lucy's car. Our luggage in the back of the trunk. She drives to our apartment. Getting off we see the other girls. Lucy takes her stuff to her room, and joins me later in my room. I feel my phone vibrate in my back pocket.
Audy: I'm almost finished with the shoot, I tried my best to talk good about you🙄😉
ESPN wanted to do a small documentary about me. My sisters, my parents and my nephew were included. All of them saying different things about me, and I'm very nervous. When I go back to states, I'll be doing myside of the things. I text her back
Me: I'm sure it was hard 😂
I haven't been around my family for so long, I don't know what to expect on what they will say about me. My mom in particular, and my sister Rylie. My sister Rylie and I don't have the relationship that I have with Adeline. Always competing with one another, but it wasn't healthy. We always fought, I remember one time I scratched her face and my nail cut the side of her eye. She had to get a few stitches, she got me back though. She went into my room, and broke my trophies. She threw them on the ground, and at the wall. Our relationship since then, it was calm. We grew up and we don't talk as much.
"Hey baby, what are you thinking about" Lucy breaks me out of my thoughts, she wraps her arms around my waist.
"My family" I tell her, she nods and kisses my shoulder. Lucy knows about the documentary I'm doing with ESPN. We get ready for bed, I go under the covers and in engulfed in a tight hug from Lucy.
"I'm positive that they've all said good things about you" Lucy tells me, giving me something good to think about. This documentary is suppose to show who I am, the person behind the gloves. Not the striker who goes for glory but the goalkeeper who saves the day.
Give me some ideas on who should be added on to the documentary for a surprise, an ex lover, a friend or Someone like Hope Solo or Abby Wambach. Someone to cause a little drama. Comment below
