Saving The Day

28 Part 3

"Hey" I turn around to see Christen by me.

"What are you doing up so late?" She asks me and she joins me leaning against the rail, looking into the streets.

"Not tired... so uh how was your date?" I ask her, and she purces her lips and looks at the streets instead of me.

"It was nice" she tells me, but not convincing. Is it bad to say I'm relieved it wasn't great?

"Where did you go on this supposed nice date?" I ask her curiously and she gives me a small smile.

"Just a dinner" she tells me as she crosses her hands because of the cold breeze, and I have the urge to nuzzle next to her. I end up bumping into her, and it makes us chuckle.

"How are you and Lucy? I know we haven't exactly talked for a while about this kind of stuff or even in general."

"Lucy and I, are going through a rough patch. Hence why I'm out here, I've just been thinking." I tell her, and I look at the cars passing by but I notice her staring at me.

"I shouldn't have asked"

"No it's okay, you didn't know" I tell her, and we make eye contact. We suddenly break eye contact as her phone dings. She looks at her phone, and she smiles down at it. It's probably the person she went on a date with.

"Sorry um ha Tobin texted me" she gave me her phone to see the text. I'm relieved now.

Tobin: Tell Holland to get her ass to bed

"Come on let's get you to bed before Mama Tobin comes over here and drags you to bed" she tells me grabbing my hand and leading me to my hotel room. I grab my keycard from back pocket and I slide on the door. We walk in, and Alex is sleeping, I put my stuff down on the stand. It's dark but you can still see pretty well with the dim light we switched on in the hallway of the room. I turn around and I'm met with Christen, her hand on my cheek. Our lips ghosting over each other and we slowly back away. She pushes me back lightly chuckling.

"I'll let you sleep" she tells me and she walks towards the door but I grab her hand just in time. She turns around to look at me

"Stay" I tell her, and she nods smiling. We walk to my bed, I pull the covers out for us. I walk to my suitcase and I give her a pair of my shorts and a shirt. I grab some for me. I go to the hallway to change, since you cant see me from the angle of the bed. When I'm done, Chris is already under the covers. I walk to the bed and I get under them too, and I adjust myself next to her, to the point I can feel her thighs against mine. There's warmness and it feels nice, I think we're both scared to try and hug each other. So I just turn my body facing the ceiling, even though it's dark, I just stare at the ceiling. None of us saying anything. As I was about to close my eyes, my phone dings and the screen lights up to the room. I move aside and I reach for my phone, and I look at the screen.

MyLove❤: Can you let me explain? Please

Me: I will eventually but right now I don't want to talk.

I place my phone down back on the stand, I  readjust the covers. Christen scoots over to me and I can practically see her, she puts her head on my shoulder.

"Everything okay?" She whispers, and I nod against her head. My phone instantly rings, and I quickly grab it and turn the volume off. Lucy's calling me and I let it ring a little longer and then I answer. I get out of the bed and I walk out to balcony and slide the door.

"If you want her Lucy, then go get her"

"I do love Keira.. but I like you too. I don't want her like that anymore, I want you and I."

"I can't be with you while you love someone else" I tell her, and I know I hear a crack in my voice. Why do relationships never work out for me? I let people in too easily, curse my kind heart man.

"Holland please-"

"I hate to do this over the phone but.. I think we need to break up" I tell her sadly, I don't want to break up with her but I also dont want to be with her while she loves Keira. She has a lot to figure out.

"Holland No! Please. That's not something we should do. We can talk this out and figure-"

"It's 1 AM over here, and I have a game later today. I'll call you later, goodnight Lucy" I interrupt and hang up. I sit on the floor of the balcony while staring at Lucy's contact name on my phone. I hear the slide door open behind me, and Alex and Christen join in. They sit next to me, and I look at Alex. She gives me a small smile, and I instantly shed a tear, I grab her and hug her. She hugs me tight, and rubs my back.

"What happened Love?"

"I broke up with Lucy" I tell her, and I start to cry harder. It's not all about Lucy, I just hate how when I go into a relationship.. it doesn't last. Is there something wrong with me? Why does it always happen to me? It's sad that I'm always crying in my best friends shoulder.. my heart hurts.

"I'm sorry baby" she whispers and hugs me tighter. We hear knocks coming from inside, and Christen gets up

"I'll get that" she walks into the room, I remain in Alex's arms, I hear whispers coming from inside.

"How is she?" I hear Tobin whisper.

"How did you-"

"Lucy texted me and asked me if I could check up on Holland"

....

After awhile, word got around about it to the team so I'm in my hotel room with 22 people. It's 2:30 AM and I'm being consoled by my team. It's weird but I appreciate their concern. 

"I appreciate this a lot, I love you girls but don't you think we should get some sleep?" I ask them looking around at them.

"You're right, how many in a bed?" Pinoe excitedly asks, everyone starts calling where to sleep. How are we going to fit 23 people in here?

"Ash, Tobin, Alyssa and Sam go bring beds" Carli orders, they nod and walk out the room. I give Carli a playful glare to what she shrugs back smiling too. Everyone sits around and chats with one another while the other girls bring the beds.

They bring in 3 beds, somehow we fit them in the room, I'm sure we're breaking some fire code violations. They adjust the mattresss close to one another to add pillows between for those who won't fit in the bed. They bring in blankets and pillows. In my bed, It's Tobin, Alex, Me, and Christen in one bed, in that order. We all lay and talk for a while, the lights are off and it's just us. Someone turns a flash on, and you can see everyone just cuddled up and smiling, we wave to the camera that Sonnett is using. She records all of us in one room.

"We're gonna win the World Cup" Julie speaks up in a whisper. We stay silent for a few seconds before we agree, and I can practically hear everyones smiles.
