THE NEXT DAY

Reading over the lyrics I'd managed to spark up in the last week of inspiration was beginning to give me a headache. I had the overall mold and melody slap, bang and sorted. It was just this stupid chorus--and don't even get me started on the title--

"Knock knock," my head snapped up with the voice, a grin stretching across my face with surprise. I was quick to abandon my chaotic mountain of crumpled and scribbled paper, Kol's gift of instrumental wood rested on the floor as I hurried forward and nearly rugby tackled Adie in a hug-- "Whoa!"

"Sorry..." I pulled back with a bashful expression, tucking my hair behind my ear when I felt my cheeks burn, "I just really missed you."

Her smile was equally blinding, "I missed you too..." My hands were held in her tender grip as we simply stood in awe of the other, enjoying a few brief moments of silence before I knew inevitable questions had to be answered.

"So, how was Mystic Falls?" Our hands remained connected while I encouraged her toward the library's couch, "Did you have a good time?"

"A great time," she admitted with a puff of air and ever-widening smile. "It feels mad every time I go there and see I have two 'brothers' who I've watched through our TV screen, I can talk to them and help them-- I mean, they've had kids! I'm an auntie...It's insane..."

"Yeah, I guess no matter how long you've been here that's something you can't just adjust to without the odd flare-up of your good old fangirling self--" I was nudged with the words, her eyes narrowing playfully as her lips tried to present a frown even though her gut longed to offer a grin wide enough to split her face.

I chuckled, the sound falling naturally from my mouth until her following question forced a ball of nerves to enter my stomach, "So, how's everything been around here? I hope Kol wasn't too much of a nuisance..." Genuine concern entered her eyes while I felt myself gulp, my hands untangling from hers to again push my hair behind my ears and fidget in my lap as I struggled to maintain eye contact.

"No, he's been great..."

"Great?"

I stood when her eyes narrowed, rounding the table to tug open the doors leading to a balcony-- 'Is it getting hot in here or is it just me?' Gripping the handles I took a deep breath, closing my eyes and allowing a small breeze to glide across my cheeks, the sun boiling into my skin. "Yeah, great..."

The only thing pulling me from my calming techniques was the recognizable crunch that accompanied paper being shuffled about. My turn was sharp, body frozen. I watched Adie's hunched form over the coffee table, hands sifting through the unorganized mountain I'd carelessly decorated it with. "Unmistakable feeling...Real Love?...Mistake--Madi, what is all this?"
