A Paladins Past

Chapter 4

-Keith POV-2.5 years later-

I watched the news broadcast in my dorm and halfway through my I felt like I was underwater. I could barely hear the TV or my roommates but I knew what was happening. Commander Holt, his son Matt (My best friend), and my cousin and mentor Shiro have been lost in space on the mission to Kerbaros.

Shiro worked so hard to get this mission and it failed? I can't believe that. I won't believe that! The crew has to be alive.

I was pulled out of my thoughts by a knock at the door, I mumbled a small "I'll get it," to my roommates as I got up to answer it. As soon as I did though I was brought into a hug.

"Oh Keith, I heard the news about your cousin! I'm so sorry!" It was Veronica... My girlfriend. I hugged her back as a few silent tears fell, Shiro was always the one to vouch for me to stay here. What am I going to do now?

(OK OK I know 'What about Annabeth' well he came to the Garrison to start a new life, so he thought it would be better for his mental health to put searching for Annabeth on the back burner and just focus on school! Plz don't hate me!!!).

-6 Months Later-

"I can't do this anymore I'm dropping out!" I tell Veronica as we sit in the lobby of the Garrison, I have gotten into too many fights here and with Shiro gone it's only gotten worse. So I'm just going to leave.

"If you leave then we won't be able to be together. You are going to drop out and I am about to become a commanding officer, I can't have my boyfriend's rep. Ruin mine." Veronica tells me as she hugs me. I understood what she was saying, becoming a commanding officer has always been her dream, I didn't want to ruin it. "I understand."

I walk out of the Garrison and decide to head to a house that Shiro and I crashed at more than once on our nightly hoverbike rides. It was this little abandoned shack overlooking a cliff. I could see the whole Garrison from there.

When I got to the house, I saw the tarp that covered one wall, I realized I have never actually seen what's behind the tarp. I took it down and saw, well, A LOT of research and a cave with drawing of a... Was that a BLUE lion. It was weird though...

I felt drawn to the drawing and weird writings on the wall.
