Chapter 29 - To the future

Present day...

Lauren's POV
The early morning sun floods the room, turning it golden, almost ethereal. Turning my face, I'm greeted with my husband's sleeping figure. "Morning baby." I murmur, planting soft kisses on his face. "Good morning babe." He smiles, shuffling closer. "What's on your mind?" He asks. "I was thinking about when we met." I explain. "The best day of my life, was when I laid eyes on you. Only rivalled by the day you said you'd marry me and the births of our kids." He whispers in between each kiss. "I wasn't easy, was I?" I chuckle, a deep blush on my cheeks. "I love you more for it." He smirks, shifting so that he's on top of me. He leans down slowly, his lips on mine. I deepen the kiss. Nick's phone rings, both of us ignoring the buzzing sound. He moves along my jawline, to my neck and down to my exposed stomach. "It'll just keep ringing." I chuckle softly, lifting his head to face me. He moves back up, dropping a kiss on my forehead before picking his phone up. "Stokes." He answers. He lays back down beside me, pulling me into his arms. I lay on his chest, his arms around me as he plays with my hair. "Sure, hm. Yeah. Just text the address." He tells the other person on the phone. "Steve?" I ask once he's hung up. "Yeah, got a case in Kailua. He wants us there." He explains. I go to get up but his hands don't let go. "Stay, we have a few moments." He whispers. I take the opportunity to flip him so that he's on the bottom. "So that's how it is." He smirks mischievously. "Yeah." I giggle. I lean down slowly, letting my lips brush his ear and work my way down, leaving tantalising love bites on his body. "Tease." He moans with a small smile. "Keeps you on your toes." I chuckle. He flips me over this time so he's on top. He cups my face, planting heated kisses on my lips before propping himself on his elbows. "My turn." He smirks. He leans down beside my ear. "Remember the second floor of the lab?" He murmurs. Every word sends a shiver down my body. "We're...so...bad..." I moan in between breathes. He nibbles at my ear, my arms wrap around his waist to steady myself as I let myself sink into his touch. He works his way down slowly, leaving love bites down my neck, chest and he finally reaches my stomach. My breathing only grows more unsteady. "Nick..." I pant, unable to say anything else. We continue to lose ourselves in each other, a deep hungry passion with every kiss, every heated whisper and every moan. I finally decide to get up and take a shower while Nick gets breakfast going and Kai ready for school.

Nick's POV
I get breakfast ready before going to wake Kai up for school. "Sweetie, wake up." I gently shake her awake. "Hmmm...morning daddy." She flashes me a sleepy smile. "Morning baby girl. Time to wake up." I kiss her forehead. I wait outside for her to take her shower and once she's done, she walks out wrapped in her towel. "What are we wearing today pumpkin?" I ask. "This one!" She jumps up and down, pointing to her light yellow tutu, yellow leggings and yellow shirt with a sun on it. I help her into it. Once she's ready, we head down to find Lauren plating up breakfast. "Morning mamma!" Kai runs up to her, hugging her legs. "Morning sweetheart." She kisses her head, ruffling her hair affectionately. "Eat your breakfast honey, we don't want you to be late for daycare." She tells her. I help her into her high chair and place her plate of cereal in front on her. I head upstairs to take a quick shower in the mean time. 10 minutes later, Lauren and I are sipping our coffees. I wrap my arms around Lauren from behind, dropping a sneaky kiss on her cheek. "Daddy!" Kai giggles, hiding her face. "What was that in aid of?" Lauren chuckles. "Just grateful for another day above ground, with my family and the love of my life." I smile. "I'm finished mamma." Kai displays her clean bowl. "Good girl. Go get your bag." I tell her. "Nick, is everything okay?" Lauren asks, a hint of worry detectable in her voice. "Yeah, I'm fine. Everything is fine babe, I'm great." I assure her. "Okay." She smiles. The rest of the day goes as usual, drop Kai off at daycare, get to work, check in with Steve and head to our office till the rest of the team arrive. "Nicky?" Lauren breaks the silence. "Yeah babe?" I answer. "Are you sure you're okay?" She asks again. "Baby, I'm fine. I promise. Just a bit tired I guess, that's all." I assure her. "Okay. As long as you're sure and you know you can come talk to me about anything." She intertwines her fingers with mine, rubbing a soothing circle on the back of my hand. "I'm sure, and I know babe." I nod, dropping a kiss on her lips. "Everyone's here, debrief time." Steve pops his head in to informs us. "What have a got?" I ask. "Dead male vic near Kailua." Steve answers briefly. "Danny, I want you, Chin and Kono to go find out who he is and find out everything we can about him. Lou please stay here with Nick and work with Jerry. Myself and Lauren and you will head down to the crime scene." He delegates swiftly.
