Casanova In Love

Chapter 24

While Ethan was away grabbing food for Luke, Bianca and Heather, he thought about how he would handle the situation with Dana now. He realized that he had to get over his heartbreak over her not recognizing him and think about her health and recovery. If he was hurt, Dana was the most vulnerable she's ever been. He had to be strong enough to help her get through that.

Back at the hospital, Luke and Bianca decided to go to Dana's room. They couldn't help but feel a little hope before going to her. They wondered what if she did recognize them. But when she gave them nothing more than polite smile, that tiny glimmer of hope was lost.

"I'm guessing I know you," she said. "I'm sorry. I wish I remembered..."

After speaking with Heather, Dana seemed to have calmed down. She trusted what people said if her mother backed them up.

"Darling, this is Bianca. You've been best friends since you moved to New York a couple of years ago. Luke is her husband. You guys are practically family," Heather said, giving her daughter a small smile.

"Hi, girl. How are you feeling?" Bianca said, taking her friend's hand in hers.

"I've been better, I guess. Thank you for being here," Dana said gratefully.

"Of course. How could we not be here? Like Heather said, you are family. Our son, Nicolas, he loves you more than us, I think." Luke joked.

"Nicolas..." she trailed off, as if trying to recall a face. "How old is he?"

"He's almost 2 years old. Here-" Bianca pulled up his picture on her phone and showed it to her. "That's him."

Dana looked at the picture for a few seconds. "He is beautiful."

With a bittersweet smile, Bianca put her phone away.

"What happened to me?" Dana asked, her voice heavy with emotion.

"You were in an accident," Luke said. "We're still trying to track down the person who did this. You had us all worried. Especially Ethan."

"Ethan..." she trailed off, expecting him to elaborate.

"Your boyfriend," Bianca said with a sad smile.

"You mean William?" Dana frowned.

The smiled was wiped off Bianca's face. Luke regarded Dana cautiously while Heather gripped her daughter's hand, worried about her.

"What?" Luke asked, making sure he was understanding the situation right.

"My boyfriend's name is William. Who's Ethan?"

"Oh god," Bianca couldn't help but gasp. "You broke up with William years ago. You're now dating my brother-in-law, Ethan."

Dana shook her head, unable to reconcile that. "No, I am not," she denied.

"You saw him this morning. He was in your room earlier," Heather tried.

Dana realized who she was talking about.

"I did see him and he looked familiar. But..." she looked away, frustrated.

A knock on the door drew everyone's attention to it. A tall blonde man entered, his face partially covered by a huge flower bouquet. 

Dana recognized him before anyone else. "William!" she exclaimed with a smile.

Bianca looked between the two in horror, her hands fingernails digging in her palms. "Luke..." she whispered quietly to her husband, who stood behind her.  He placed a hand on her shoulder in response, watching the interaction carefully.
