It was a gloomy Friday night somewhere in end-December, and Jisoo was still in high school.

Jisoo had just gotten into a bad argument with her parents and headed to a nearby café to calm down. She took a seat at a table under a parasol outside, laying her head down on the table. For hours, she just sat there watching the people pass by, trying to clear the thoughts from her head.
"Ya! Kim Taehyung! Catch!"
A basketball whizzed over her head and was caught by a tall boy with jet black hair. He bowed a little towards Jisoo, apologising for his friend's rowdy behaviour. Jisoo, evidently startled, simply nodded back.
"Ya!" This guy Jisoo now knew to be Taehyung pulled his friend over, shoving the basketball back into his arms and chided him. "Park Jimin! You almost hit someone with your basketball."
"Oops-" The Jimin guy turned around and bowed in Jisoo's direction as well. "Sorry, I'm really sorry."
Jisoo just nodded back in acknowledgement.
"What are you doing here?" Jimin asked Taehyung. "I thought you said you were going home?"

"Yeah, I was-" Taehyung said with a grin. "But I stopped by to get a cake! I finally saved enough money to get a whole cake."
"Wait-" Jimin raised his eyebrows. "You've been skipping lunch this whole week just to get yourself a birthday cake?"
"Mmhmm, it's too bad we're still in high school, if not I would've taken up a part time job a long time ago... but like that is fine too!" Taehyung grinned. "I'm gonna finish that all on my own tonight~ That's a whole week's worth of savings... but it's gonna be so worth it."
"You deserve it, you birthday boy-" Jimin said with a smile as he ruffled Taehyung's hair fondly. "You should have told me earlier, maybe I could have chipped in a bit to get you a cake."
"No, I couldn't possibly do that, Jimin-ah." Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows. "I know your family doesn't have it easy either. But I really appreciate the thought."
