The gray-haired president slowly ate before breaking the silence that filled the large living space, "Let's talk about what happened, shall we."
[Y/n] might not have shown it at that moment, but she was anxious the entire time, waiting to find out what had happened after she'd left.
She saw Dazai nod his head in understanding before saying,
"The woman, Higuchi Ichiyou, deceived the Agency by posing as a woman of higher status concerned about the well being of her coworkers due to the loitering of non-existent foreign men whom she believed smugglers. She knew how to make her story believable, but I had a feeling something was off about her story. Namely, the alleyway she had mentioned was near a place we commonly led people during my time in the mafia. So, I bugged her, similar to what I did with you not long ago, [Y/n]-san, by flirting with her."
(Y/n)'s eyes widened as she placed her fork on the table before patting herself down.
"Just kidding."
She sent a glare to the man before pointing a finger at him across the table and scolding him, "Not the time for that you piece of bandaged--"
"(Y/n), Dazai, focus on the task at hand. Dazai, I didn't bring you here to bother her, (Y/n), I brought him here to tell you what he discovered about the boy you seem to care about, and I believe I can take a guess as to why the boy has impacted you so."
(Y/n) sighed and said, "I got it, please continue..."
Dazai didn't miss any of those cues she gave. There was something about Atsushi that she sympathized with. Something that probably scarred her past. He wanted to know what it was.
What had this seemingly normal and selfless woman been through? She couldn't have been any older than him, she looked about 20-- maybe 21? Just a few years younger than he. So what had happened to her?
Even though his thoughts raced with unanswered questions, he continued. "I was listening in the whole time. I wasn't foolish enough to set aside my gut instinct and let him go on his first assignment to be killed.
Unfortunately, my feeling was correct. Upon arrival in the alleyway after he complained the entire way about not being good enough... He lacks confidence, you know? But that's beside the point.
After they arrived, Higuchi called none other than Akutagawa Ryuunoskue, whom you had the pleasure of meeting. Such a dedicated boy he is. I believe you know what happened next... Akutagawa threatened to take Atsushi's leg, and the lives of the Tanizaki siblings, had he not cooperated. And Akutagawa did just that to his leg after he fought back."
(Y/n)'s face fell as she remembered the sight she'd seen... The boy's leg was cleanly removed by the demon-like ability of Akutagawa's.
"Yet even though his leg was torn off, he was able to completely regenerate through the usage of his ability, which you also witnessed first hand. You're now one of six people to see his true abilities in work, congratulations!"
[Y/n] scowled at his words before saying, "What happened after I left though? Is he okay? How is his leg, really? Why was he targeted? I know a targeted job when I see one. Can I see--"
The President cut her off with the raise of his hand before saying, "He's yet to finish. I know you're worried about him, but we won't leave until we've answered all your questions. That is part of the reason I stopped by so late."
The girl simply nodded and mumbled out "Sorry... please continue." Before stuffing her hands into her lap as she bowed her head slightly.
Dazai smiled softly at her almost embarrassed actions before saying, "It's fine. After you left, Atsushi almost immediately blacked out again. It was revealed by Akutagawa that an unknown third party has placed a bounty of 7 billion on his head. It's no wonder the mafia is after him now. Any bounty above 500k is a top priority for the Port Mafia.
