--THE LIGHTS FLICKER in the library.
(Y/n) looked up, feeling a pit in her stomach at the motion. It brought back unpleasant and artificial memories, but the door opening in her peripheral vision distracted her.
When she looked up, she made eye contact with the timid Tamaki, who looked around the library. When they settled on her, she was staring at her work, pretending not to notice him. Her chest tightened when she could tell he was walking to her, until finally, she felt his shadow loom over her.
"Is it alright if I sit here?" he asked shyly, avoiding eye contact as he did often. His hand was gripped on the top of a chair across from her on the same table.
She blushed a bit, but nodded anyway. "Of course, go ahead."
Tamaki pulled out the chair and quietly took a seat. There were little to no people in the library yet aside from then. Through the windows, it was still a bit dark as the sun had yet to fully rise. Summer was rolling about, so it wasn't exactly cold yet, at least. She did somewhat miss the vapors that would emit when she breathed out in the cold.
The boy across her leaned down to take things out of his backpack, and he set a binder and spiral notebook in the table. Right away, he took the notebook and put it on his lap, propped against the edge of the table, obscuring it from her view. (Y/n) smiled a bit, figuring it was because he was shy to write in front of other people or something.
It was really because it was her, otherwise, he might not have cared.
(Y/n) finally spoke up, figuring why the hell not. "You're here early, Amajiki-Senpai."
He seemed surprised she'd spoken up. "Yeah, um," he rubbed his neck, which (Y/n) chuckled at a bit. Even his ears were tilted downward. "I didn't have anything else to do but study for our exams. I figured I'd get a head start. . ."
"Oh, right. Do you know what we'll be doing for Environmental?" she asked, scooting in her seat. She set her arms on the table and used them as a pillow, putting her head down to rest, facing the side and eyes half lidded.
"Um. . . I th-think it's just an accumulative multiple choice exam of all the units we've done so far," he answered, staring at her half-asleep form. "Like Nitrogen cycle, Communities, Evolution. . . Demographic transition. . ." Tamaki grumbled the last bit.
(Y/n) laughed a bit, smirking and looking up at him. "Are you still having a hard time with that, Senpai?"
For some reason, he felt more nervous than before looking at her face. His eyes glanced to the wall. "A-A little bit."
She sighed. "Guess it can't be helped. I can help you study for that unit in particular, if you want. Not like I'll have anything better to do."
"What, really? I-I mean, I don't want to be a bother," he insisted, waving his hands as he frowned at her.
(Y/n) sat up, crossing her arms. "It's not a bother at all! I thought you would've known that by now."
"I-I'm sorry," he apologized, looking down at his lap. ". . . Are you mad at me?"
"Why would I get mad, Tamaki?" she questioned, also frowning in confusion. Her face suddenly burst with red as she panicked at the mistake. "I-I mean, Amajiki-Senpai. Not. Yeah. Jiki."
"You-You don't have to address me so formally, (L/n)-Chan," he told her. "Besides. . . I already told you to call me Tamaki. . ."
She blinked, staring at him a bit, but her embarrassment seemed gone.
This made him burn up. "Wh-What?"
"No, it's not that," (Y/n) shook her head. "You have something on your face."
"I-I do?" he repeated, and scratched his cheek. "Is it gone?"
"No, it's still there," she pointed to his left cheek.
He continued to scratched his cheek, trying to pinpoint the location as his forehead warmed up at the display he was putting on in front of her.
"It's still there."
He frowned, unable to locate it. "This is embarrassing," he muttered.
"Here, I'll get it for you," (Y/n) leaned over the table, standing from her seat a bit.
Before Tamaki could protest, he went along with it and leaned forward a bit as she reached out to him. Sweat formed on his skin, and the library suddenly felt much warmer than it was a minute ago.
Her finger touched his skin, and he felt the way it caressed him tenderly for a moment, just a moment though. He shut his eyes, unable to bear eye contact as she removed the thing from his blushing face.
Was she always this gentle with him? He could sense the tip of her nail ghost along his face, and the warmth of her own skin against his.
Without realizing, he leaned into her touch, and found himself in the hold of her palm. It was softer than he thought, but there were rough sports that he could feel. Proof of hard work.
It was oddly relaxing.
"Tamaki?"
His eyes opened when he realized what he was doing, and he almost jumped back, flustered, and his heart drumming fiercely against his chest.
(Y/n) stared, wide eyed, confused. On her index finger, she had an eyelash, before flicking it away.
"It's gone."
Tamaki scratched the back of his head, now feeling itchy everywhere, and hot with the rest of himself.
"Th-Thanks."
Dead silence.
"I'm going to the bathroom," he said suddenly, and stood up, leaving the notebook in his seat. Without another word, he walked out of the library, stiff and holding onto his sleeve as if for comfort. I'm so stupid I'm so stupid I'm so stupid I'm so stupid-
(Y/n) frowned, puzzled. I can't tell what he's thinking at all, the damn dummy. A dry chuckle came from her mouth as she put her head down again. "It almost makes me get my hopes up."
