You groan and slam your hand down on the obnoxious machine announcing you must be awake. Your hair is a mess and your vision is blurry from sleep. Your limbs are tired and your body is just screaming for more sleep.
"Wake the hell up." You mumble to yourself. You stand up out of your bed and yawn, stretching. Your bones pop satisfactorily and you hop in the shower for your morning routine.
After you shower, you get dressed into a simple red dress and blowdry your hair. You grab your nude flats and put them on before putting your hair in a ponytail. You then grab a banana and quickly eat it before going out to your car and driving to work. You work at a high school in a small town in South Carolina as an astronomy teacher. It's March 12, 2019, and you're so sure nothing could go wrong.
You get to the school and smile at your co-workers as you walk to your class. There's one man you don't recall ever seeing, but you don't question it. Plenty of people work in this school. You're bound to miss a few faces.
The bell rings and your first class quickly shuffle in. You greet them, drumming your fingers lightly on the desk until the hell rings again, marking whoever enters afterward as tardy. You walk to the door to shut it until a hand comes in contact with it.
"Sorey, miss. I'm John Smith, here from the board of education." He shows you a piece of paper in a strange wallet and you look at it blankly. A small smirk appears on your lips.
"Ah, yes. Doctor John Smith. Welcome." You move out of the way so the man can walk in.
You give him a good look when he sits at the table in the back. He's wearing a purple tweed jacket with suspenders and a ridiculous bowtie. His hair is brown and sort of floppy and his eyes... oh such a gorgeous green!
You clear your throat and introduce yourself for 'John Smith.' "Hello class. We have a visitor from the board of education so please play nice. Dr. Smith, my name is Ms. (L/N). Please feel free to ask my students anything you'd like. We are up to date on the standards and objectives."
"Thank you, Ms. (L/N)." He smiles.
You begin teaching your class about the Andromeda Galaxy. It's your favorite subject to teach and anytime you do so, you end up bouncing on your feet in pure excitement with a wide smile on your face. "The Andromeda Galaxy is the closest to the Milky Way and is slowly moving towards us at a rate of sixty-eight miles per second. So, if the Andromeda is 2.537 million lightheaded away, how long will it take until it collides with our galaxy, hm?" One student raises her hand, making you smile. "Anabella."
"Approximately four and a half billion years." She states proudly. "I read it in my astronomy textbook."
"Correct. Can anyone tell me how wide the galaxy is?" You ask. Again, Anabella raises her hand. "Other than Anabella."
The man in the back raises his hand and you look up at him. Since no one else raises their hand you smirk.
"Alright, Mr. Smith, let's see what you know." You smile.
"The Andromeda Galaxy is 110,000 lightyears in radius. And the correct terminology for how far it is from the Milky Way is 780 kiloparsecs." He states with a smirk matching your own from earlier.
"Very good." You continue your lesson until the bell rings again.
Everyone starts packing their bags and you see John Smith stand to walk out.
"Doctor, could you stay for a moment please?" You ask. He nods and sits back down. The students slowly trickle out of your classroom and you shut the door.
"So... lovely lesson you had." He smiled. "A bit of it was false but that's alright."
"I suppose you would know more about space wouldn't you?" You sit across from him, legs crossed and shoulders back. "Psychic paper, hm?" You raise an eyebrow, smirking a little.
He looked a little shocked but maintained a calm figure. "How'd you know?"
"Does the name Jack Harkness ring any bells?" You ask, to which he nods. "Excellent. Well, Jack recruited me for Torchwood a while back when I still lived in Cardiff. I learned a lot about the Doctor."
He nodded and clapped his hands together. "Well that does make this interesting. Shall we?"
"Shall we what?" You asked, a little dumbfounded.
"Go to the Andromeda Galaxy. My treat. You'll love it." A twinkle came in his eye and he quickly stood and walked out, leaving you to follow this mad man into his blue box.
