Y/N's POV

A deep, resonant vibration, like that of an earthquake snaps me back to reality. And it pretty much scares the crap out of me.

I pause my music and check to see who sent the text.

Peter.

My heart beats about a thousand times faster just thinking about him. After pulling myself together, I tap on the notification banner to see his message.

It's a link. That's it. Wait, that's it? No context, no "you're a jerk, listen to this", no nothing.

But it doesn't matter. I crossed his mind, and whether that's a good thing or a bad thing I'll just have to deal with it.

I tap the link, and it takes me to YouTube. I realize that I must have been making faces at my phone, because I'm getting a ton of strange glances. After the video is done loading, I read the title:

Song on Fire, Nickelback

That's right, he likes Nickelback, too. I should introduce him to Daughtry, he'd probably like it.

Well, that is, if we were on speaking terms.

Harsh, but true.

I turn up the volume and soak in the lyrics, like I told him to do once. A long time ago…

The first words that come out, and I can tell this song'll be about you

I can't believe that I can breathe without you, but all I need to do is carry on

The next line I write down, there's a tear that falls between the pages

I know that pain's supposed to heal in stages, but it depends which one I'm standing on

I write lines down and rip them up, describing love can't be this tough

I could set this song on fire, send it up in smoke

I could throw it in the river and watch it sink in slowly

Tie the pages to a plane and send it to the moon

Play it for the world, but it won't mean much unless I sing this song to you

I'm dying to show you, this could end happily ever after

There doesn't ever have to be disaster, and all you have to do is sing along

I write lines down, then rip them up, impossible describing love

I could set this song on fire, send it up in smoke

I could throw it in the river and watch it sink in slowly

Tie the pages to a plane and send it to the moon

Play it for the world, but it won't mean much

Unless I sing this song to you

I could set this song on fire

Sing this song to you

I could set this song on fire

Light this old guitar on fire, I'd still hear the notes

Drown the melody in water, I'd still hear its ghost

Sing it with somebody else, but we'd be out of tune

Play it for the world, but it won't mean much

I could set this song on fire, send it up in smoke
