Chapter 6

~Zion~

I kind of wish I chose to perform the new song at an earlier date, only because I really loved performing so I was getting too excited just thinking about it. Not only that, but I really wanted people to hear another song Dane wrote. He deserved to have people know what a talented song writer he was.

But I also really wanted to perform at Hummingbird on a day that Carrie was there, because I was an extremely petty person at times. Her calling me a one hit wonder not only targeted me, but it also targeted Dane for writing the song.

I wanted to show Carrie that she shouldn't have underestimated Dane's abilities.

So I had to suck it up and wait until the day she was going to be there, which only made school feel like it was going by extremely slow, because I was way too excited to perform. Well, school always felt like it was going slow, but now it was even worse.

I just felt like sleeping through every class, but I forced myself to stay awake.

Only because I didn't want detention. Again. My parents told me if I got detention one more time this month, they were going to stick me on cleaning duty at the theatre for a month.

They sure knew how to keep me in line.

"Alright, class," Mrs. Wizzle, the family studies teacher, said as soon as the tardy bell rang. "For the next few weeks, you will be doing a family project that will be including management, financing, and family care. This project does include pairs, but I have adjusted the assignment for anyone who would really prefer working on their own. Now, for those who wants to work in pairs, you will be fake married, so choose someone you'll work well with. I'll let you choose your partners now before I explain the rest of the first assignment so you and your partner can choose which one will work best for you."

There was one person I wanted to pair up with but as I looked over at him, I noticed a few girls trying to pair up with him. Which wasn't surprising at all. Dane was the smartest guy in the whole school, which was why people normally referred to him as his last name, Einstein.

Dane has told me a few times at work that he hated partner projects because the people who wanted to work with him only wanted to because they thought he would do all the work.

And as I looked at Dane, I could tell he really didn't want to work with anyone who was asking him.

I got up from my desk, grabbing my backpack as well before walking over to Dane. "Sorry, ladies," I said to the girls. "But I'm going to marry Dane."

"You can't just demand you're working with him," one of the girls said.

"Uh, sorry, but I think I'm going to work with Zion," Dane said. "Even though this marriage is all fake, I'd rather work with someone my... type, I guess."

"Awe, you're attracted to me?" I asked as I sat down in the spot beside Dane.

"I did not say that at all," Dane said.

I shrugged. "That's what I heard. Oh, wait, I almost forgot. I have to propose."

"What?" Dane asked. "No, you don't. Mrs. Wizzle just told us to find a partner. Nothing about proposing."

I ignored him as I got off the seat and got down on one knee, taking Dane's hands into mine. "Dane Middle-Name Einstein..."

       "It's Makisig."
