Chapter 27

~Dane~

I had to admit, part of me was worried that my and Zion's dynamic while writing songs together was going to change a bit, and not in the good way. I didn't know why things would change badly now that Zion and I were dating; it was just something that was on my mind.

Things did change between us while we were writing songs together, but not in a bad way. In fact, we worked a whole lot better. Our ideas just flowed together, and we were almost always on the same page.

I've always loved songwriting but now, I think I loved it a lot more. Having someone to bounce ideas off of, someone that I liked a whole lot, just made it a lot more fun.

And it was why we ended up with a new song we were both proud of. One that we really hoped that record labels owner would enjoy, thus would make them officially sign Zion.

Once he was signed, his career was going to officially take off.

"Are you sure it's fine for us to go to the meeting in our school uniforms?" Zion asked as I was driving us to the record label meeting. I had to pick Zion up today to go to school because he said he would have been too nervous to drive to the meeting, and we had to head straight to the studio after school.

"Well, the meeting is very close to when school ends, so I don't think they would mind," I said. "And at least we're in school uniforms and not wearing something lazy."

"Yeah, I guess that's true," Zion said. "And look, I'm wearing a tie today. I look even more fancy than I normally do. By the way, just in case you're wondering, I'm totally not nervous for the meeting. Not at all."

"I wasn't wondering," I said. "But now that you mention it..."

       "Well, I'm not," Zion said.

"It's okay to be nervous," I said. "Everyone gets nervous."

       "Not me."

"Weren't you nervous before you sang that song to me?"

"Nope. Couldn't have been me. I don't get nervous. What is nervous? Certainly nothing I've felt."

I chuckled. "Zion, seriously, it is okay to be nervous. You don't have to pretend that you're not."

Zion sighed and leaned back into his seat. "I know. It's just... Fake it 'til you make it, right? Because I'm super nervous for the meeting. What if they listen to the new song and decide it's not the sound they're going for? What if they don't like my personality? What if everything goes wrong and they decide not to sign me?"

"Then we'll find another record that wants to sign you," I said. "I know you really like this label, and so do I, but it's not the end of your career if you don't get signed. But just think, they wouldn't want to meet with you if they weren't interested in signing you, and I really don't think they're going to suddenly change their mind."

       "I sure hope so..."

Zion still looked a bit nervous for the meeting, but I knew it was going to go well. At least, I hoped it did. I was nervous for Zion too, but it was best that I didn't tell him that. He needed to focus on his own nerves, not mine.

Once we got to the Mementos Records' studio, Zion and I made sure that we had everything we needed for the meeting. Zion was still quite nervous, though. As we were getting out of my car, I could tell that he was trying his best to shake his nerves.
