Romance had always been your genre of choice when it came to reading, which was certainly not the same for your best friend, and fellow Heather, Heather Duke. You were currently over at her house, both reading separate books. Her, of course, reading Moby Dick, it being her favourite book and all. You were reading yet another romance novel, and we're getting quite into it actually, you see, this one, you could relate to. It was about a pair of popular girls in high school that fall for each other and have to navigate the world of teenage romance, homophobia and all that jazz. Duke spoke up, "Hey, Y/N, what's so good about that book? Why do you always pick romance novels?"
"I just like to be able to live my desires through a fantasy world, since they'll never happen in real life." You answered, leaning your head in your hands.
It was true, you loved this very book because you always imagined you and Duke together.
"What's it about?" Heather questioned.
"I-Uhm, well, promise you won't make fun of me for it? Or tell anyone else?" You responded nervously.
"Promise I won't." She said, deadly serious.
"Well, it's about two popular high school girls that fall for each other and how they choose to deal with it and stuff.." You answered, a little embarrassed.
"That sounds pretty good actually. So, what's your desire that you must live out through a fantasy world?" She asked curiously.
"Kissing the girl I like." You responded casually, only realising after the fact, the gravitas of what you'd said. It was the 80's, homophobia was rampant and you were stupid enough to admit what you just did.
"You like girls?" Duke inquired, shocked.
"Y-Yeah.. it's not a problem, is it?" You were now absolutely terrified.
"No, it's the opposite." She smirked seductively.
"W-What?" You were now really confused as you thought she'd hate you.
Heather got close to your face, and you could feel her breath on you, and your face was a bright red. She kissed you softly, and you kissed back.
"Has your fantasy been fulfilled?" She teased.
"Mhmmm." You responded contently.
"Good, how about we do this again this weekend. A reading date, I'll tell you about Moby Dick, and stuff.." She asked you out.
"Yeah, I'd like that.. Does this make us, an item? Or..?" You questioned, nervously.
"If you want us to be." She smiled happily at you.
"Yeah, I'd want nothing more." You responded dreamily, unable to believe that your crush actually liked you back, and how quickly it had all escalated.
