"Aidoneus, you do realise that if you allow her to decide to leave, she will leave, and this will all be for nothing?" asked Hekate, her face hardened. "Yes," Hades replied simply. "And you do realise that even if she goes back safely to her mother, you still risk an attack from Olympus?" she asked again, Hades was silent. "For nothing?" Hekate pressed on. "Yes, my lady! I know all that! But it won't be for nothing, it will be for Persephone's happiness and wellbeing. If I have to go to war and burn Olympus to the ground for it, so be it!" exclaimed Hades, his weary voice on fire; Lady Nyx and Hekate smiled. "If Demeter, or Zeus, or any Olympians dare to declare war against Chthonia, we will be with you, my king," Hekate said firmly. "May it will never come to that," Lady Nyx said softly.

Looking at her king now, Hekate remembered Hades on his first day as King of the Underworld. He was young and angry, embittered by his fate of drawing the most miserable lot. He was vicious and ruthless, unleashing the wrath of Hades on anything and everything, even to the most inconsequential of things. But through time, his melancholy soul and pragmatic nature made him see and appreciate the beauty of the Underworld, and its workings. The Fates are never wrong; indeed, Hades is the best god for the Underworld.

"I think it is time for you to go to her, Aidoneus," said Hekate gently, Hades nodded. "Thank you, my friends," he said quietly, looking between both goddesses. Lady Nyx reached out and caressed his cheek, she smiled encouragingly. Hades gave them a weak smile, and disappeared in a flash of dark shadows to Persephone's bedchambers.
