It was 3 am when Asher walked into the waiting room with a clipboard in his hands, with an unreadable look on his face. I stood up and walked closer to him,

"What's up?" I questioned. He turned his gaze to his watch then at me,

"He's stable. He had internal bleeding and a broken arm but other than that he's perfectly fine, he might have to stay here for a few nights," he replied. He looked inside the yellow folder, I'm assuming it's Ray's file.

"It says his emergency contact is Rachel Jones. I tried to call a few times but it went straight to voicemail. Is there anyone else I can call?" He asked. I shook my head,

"I'm his only emergency contact. Rachel died last year so I'm the only one here." I said. I'm a little surprised that Rachel is his emergency contact, but I understand because of the past they had. He nodded, I held out my hand,

"Thank you Asher," I said with a smile. He shook my hand with a tight grip giving me a smile.

"No problem Zack. you can visit him. He's in room 401 right down the hall. He should be awake now." he said walking away then he paused and turned around.

"Oh. I'll also make sure that his name isn't leaked in the media."

"Okay. thank you he'll appreciate it." I replied. He nodded and walked away.

Once I found the room Ray was in, I saw him lying on the bed, his whole face swollen blue and purple. His left arm in a thick brace, he is really beat down.

"Hey, Ray. how are you feeling?" I questioned as I softly shut the door behind me and walked over to the chair that's beside his bed, he rolled his head over towards me and frowned.

"The morphine is wearing off. I'm starting to feel the pain. I never thought that I would ever be run over by a car." he mumbled. I nodded slowly,

"Yeah, I know. It's crazy. Do you have any idea who might have hit you?'' I questioned. He shook his head,

"Umm no. I don't think so. I mean I did kill the Crows gang leader last week but I don't think they were out for revenge because I made sure they wouldn't retaliate or their whole drug operation would be shut down. So I dont think it's them." he explained. I nodded and bit the inside of my cheek,

"Oh okay. Well, hopefully, we can find out who did this to you."

"Yeah speaking of that. Tomorrow. I want you to take a look at the security footage at the law firm and see if you can get the license plate." he requested. I nodded,

"Okay, I will." I paused as he grunted in pain. "Do you want me to call a nurse?" he nodded wordlessly.

"Okay. Give me a sec.'' I muttered before walking into the hallway.

A few hours passed before I left Ray to his own activities. He was actually asleep when I left, I was standing in the waiting room waiting for Carol to show up. It was almost 5:30 am and she hadn't shown up yet. Moments later she walked in pulling her red hair in a messy bun with her red hair tie, I smiled as she approached me.

"Hey," I said. Noting the fact I still had pajamas on. Luckily I didn't look too bad, besides the bloodstain on my shirt. But I have a jacket to cover it so I don't attract any prying eyes.

"Hey Henry," she muttered tiredly with a small grin on her face,

"Are you still up for coffee? If not we could always do another day." I suggested. She did look tired, Carol shook her head.

"No, I'm fine. We can still get coffee."

"Okay cool. I know the perfect place." I said with a smile.

"Sure lead the way!" she exclaimed as I led her out the hospital.

The coffee and our conversation went well. We are now walking to the parking garage that wasn't far from the coffee shop,

"Thanks for the coffee." She thanked me as I walked her to her car.

"No problem Carol. I mean you did sew up my wound at no cost so thank you." I insisted. She laughed and patted my arm.

"Thanks for walking me to my car. What are you going to do after?" she asked as she dug in her purse,

"I'm probably going to go home and take a nap," I replied. She gave me a short nod,

"So... can I give you my number?" she asked, her face turning red.

"Yeah what is it?"

"305-278-3527.'' I typed the number in my phone and saved her as 'Carol'.

"Okay. I got it. I'll text you later then." I muttered as I stuffed my phone in my pocket. Carol smiled and gave me a wave before getting in her car, I walked to the elevator pressing the button to go to the next floor that my car was on.

The elevator doors opened with a loud ding, I stepped on the elevator and pressed level 5. The doors were about to close when a woman rushed in. Shoving me with her elbow,

"Hey watch it, lady," I warned my hand hovering over my freshly closed wound. I am not trying to get that reopened. That would be bad. The woman cleared her throat,

"Sorry, sir. I didn't mean to," she muttered lowly. I couldn't see her face, she had a hood on. I looked at her slightly confused. She sounded like Charlotte, there is no way she's here. That wouldn't be safe if she was here because she might be in danger.

"No you're fine,'' I replied. The elevator took me to the 5th floor and the doors slid open. I stepped out of the elevator and suddenly the woman grabbed my hand.

"Wha-" I uttered before she kissed me. I pulled away from the lady in shock,

"Hey Zack." She said a smirk.

"Oh my god. Baby, you're here?!" I exclaimed as I pulled her in a tight hug. She wrapped her arms around my shoulders laughing into my chest,

"Yes, I'm here silly. Sorry for appearing on short notice, I saw the news last night. How is he?" she asked, pulling away from me. I grabbed her hand and lead her to my car,

"He's doing good. He had a few broken bones and a fractured cheekbone," I explained. She nodded and laced her fingers with mine,

"So can I see him?" she asked with curiosity. I unlocked the car and opened the passenger seat for her,

"Well. now he's asleep, but I haven't slept since 10 pm last night because he broke into my house last night and I've been here ever since then. So I need some sleep before anything else," I muttered as I started the car, she looked over at me.

"Do you want me to drive?" I shook my head,

"Nah baby I got it," I said with a yawn. Putting the car in reverse,

"You sure?" she asked, giving me a concerned glance. I smiled giving her a wink,

"Yes, baby I am. Now let me catch you up on recent events." I said with a long sigh, here we go.
