"Uh me?"

I feel the nervousness as if it was me going up first instead of Ross.

"What do I even sing? I'm not even good."
"Just do a sample-like 15 seconds of a song at the very least."
"Um okay. Does everyone have to do this?"
"Yes. Now, go!"

He cleared his throat.

"Take me to church, I'll worship like a dog. I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife. Take me to church- ha, yea it wasn't good."

He took his hand and rubbed the back of his hair.

"Okay good! Really! Just try and not sing through your nose next time. Um let's see."

She looked at her clipboard and turned her head to me.

"Leigh? Leigh. Your next."
"Okay."

I stood up and I heard a whisper as I went up to the stool that was placed in the middle of the room.

"Break a leg."
"Thanks Conner."

"Okay, um I will be singing chandelier by Sia."
"Oh. Tough song."
"Ha ya okay."

"Party girls don't get hurt can't feel anything when will I learn I push it-"
"Stop."
"Wait what? Excuse me?"
"I've heard enough."
"But you said at least fifteen seconds! That was only like three!"
"I know what I have said. I just have to hurry because of time."
"Only Conner has to go, I know I'm not good but that was just plain rude."

I sat down, cheeks so red from embarrassment. I looked at Conner and nudged my head aiming for him to go next.

"Your turn."
"Oh! Okay."

He went up with a sheet of music and a guitar I didn't notice that was in the bag he carried with him.

"Hey. Hi. Um, I'm singing. I mean, you probably already knew that um. I'll be singing hanging tree."

He sat on the stool with the guitar on one leg. He started playing and it felt like the room went silent.

"Are you? Are you? Coming to the tree, where dead man called out, for his love to flee. Strange things are happening no stranger would it be, if we met at midnight in the hanging tree."

The whole class just went silent, then an uproar of applause rained upon him.

"Ha. Thanks. But, I'm more of a baseball fan."
