I don't really know what to say here, I hope you like it though.

"Remyyyy." I pleaded. "Please, please don't make me go into the spider enclosure."
"Patton, I know you don't want to but it's how the jobs are assigned. I can't do anything about it."
"You are the manager. You can do whatever you like."
"Rules are rules Patton. I'm sorry. Either take the shift or try and convince someone to swap."

Getting assigned the creepy crawly death dealer cage would be fine any other day. Any other day, Virgil could take my place. But today Virgil is not here. He's sick.

I want you to get better kiddo, but couldn't you have chosen any other time to be ill.

Ok, ok, ok. Don't panic. It will be ok. I just need to find someone to take my place.

With these reassurances in my head, I went to the break room. It was a medium sized area with beige walls, a large brown couch and a kitchenette. The only person in there was Logan and he was filling up a flask with coffee. I didn't know the man well but I had seen him talk passionately about the animals. That made me fall in love with him.

Ok, so maybe not love. But, it didn't help that a pretty boy, who was really smart, made me feel even more pansexual than usual. I would speak to him but he wouldn't want my loud company. I'll try someone else.

"Patton?" So close to the door, darn it.
"Hiya Logan! How are you?"
"Quite adequate. Are you well Patton?"
"Oh me? I'm just dandy. I better go Lo. Haha. Go, Lo, it rhymes. But yeah. I'll leave you to your coffee now." I turned back around and brought my hand to the handle but fate had other ideas.
"Patton, you are showing signs of discomfort. Can I, relive you from the trigger?"
"I'm sorry?" Logan just loves to say things that makes us all confused.

"I am aware that we aren't friends, however, you seem unhappy and I was wondering why."
"Ah well, I just don't like spiders."
"Arachnophobia is a common fear-"
"Wait! I want all spiders to have the right to marriage, I just get scared by them!"
"That's what- More importantly, your fear of spiders isn't a new revelation to you. Why is it so disconcerting at this moment?"
"I have to work in their enclosure. Remy won't change it, now I need to find someone to swap with, but most people don't like messing up their time tables and won't change. I'm rambling now aren't I." My sentence fell apart as it came tumbling out. I didn't realise that the smell of coffee beans and books had become stronger. That was until I noticed Logan right in front of me.

"Patton. You must not panic. I shall take over your shift. Is that satisfactory?"
"Logan, you would take the spiders?"
"That is what I previously suggested, is it not?"
"Oh thank you Logan! Thank you! Thank you!" I brought him into a tight embrace and quickly jumped away. I noticed a slight tint of pink on his cheeks but blamed it on the bad AC in the room.

"I should get going now. Thank you again Logan." I had opened the doors.
"Don't forget to go to the frogs."
"The frogs?"
"Yes, the enclosure that you will be working in instead of-"
"Don't say it's name! Thank you Logan."
I finally left that break room with a skip in my step and a flutter in my stomach.

After that day I ended up speaking to Logan often. Remy had continued to give me the job of dealing with the little monsters. I pretty much always asked Logan to cover. Logan then invited me lunch to discuss important things. I never learnt what the important things were because we spent the whole time getting to know each other.

Eating lunch with Logan and taking his shifts became a common occurrence.

I asked Remy why he continued to put my on spider duty, his response:
"You have a crush on Logan. I need to give you a nudge so you continue the interactions."

It seemed everyone in the zoo thought we would be cute together, even the animals. I didn't realise I was that obvious. Apparently Logan didn't either because he's as oblivious as ever.

I know big words too!

We had continued this friendship for months when it happened. I was running incredibly late that day, Linda wasn't brushing her hair and long story short, she refused to go to school. After finally getting my sibling to a place of education I went to work.

When I came in I could see Remy and Logan having and animated conversation.
"Remy, I have already agreed to take Patton's assignment to the creepy crawly-Spider enclosure! Sorry, spider enclosure."
"I am aware of this Logan."
"Then when will you stop giving them to him?"
"When you ask him out!"
"He won't say yes! I can't do that."
"Well the only way to stop me assigning them is if you ask him. He will say yes." Remy started to walk away.
"You can't know that!"
"I can and I do." Remy called behind him before disappearing around a corner.

I stood there shocked. Logan liked me? Logan liked me! Oh My Gosh! I took a deep breath before alerting my spider saviour that I was here.
"Hey Logie! Sorry I'm late." He jumped and turned around.
"Patton. I am taking your arachnid shift."
"Thank you Logan." I gave him a quick hug before going to drop my bags.

I don't know why I felt so calm about all of this suddenly. It was like my heart was telling my brain that it would all be alright.
"Patton, would you like to accompany me to lunch?"
"Of course Logan, I say yes everyday."
"No! I mean, would you like to go to lunch as a form of romantic outing."
"I would like that very much."

My heart was right. It will be alright.
