"Happy birthday, Milly," Lando wrapped his arms around his best friend's body after stepping through the front door of the Perry household. He wore a white polo shirt and some black jeans, a wide smile plastered on his face. "I can't believe you're already thirteen."

"And happy birthday, Lando!" Mila giggled in response. Each year, Lando always complained about how Mila was hours older than him. He wanted to be the oldest one out of them. "I can't believe you're still twelve."

Lando stuck his tongue out at his best friend before she reached for his hand and dragged him through the hallway and into the front room. For as long as they could remember, this was the same way they'd spent their birthday for their entire lives. Neither Lando nor Mila were big on having a proper birthday party; they simply liked being with their families, sharing time altogether whilst celebrating another year of their friendship. They alternated between houses each year and on their thirteenth birthday, it just happened that they were due to spend the day at Mila's house in Somerset. Cisca and Adam were behind Lando, with young Cisca clinging to her dad's hand whilst Flo and Oliver walked ahead of them. Micah was waiting in the front room with Mark and Mandy locked the door after the Norris family stepped into the hallway.

In the corner of the room, two piles of presents stood proudly, waiting for their respective owner to open them. This year, Mila's presents were wrapped in a pastel yellow colour, whilst Lando's were wrapped in a pastel orange. Such traditions were something both families followed every year for their birthdays, considering Mila and Lando were basically non-biological twins. They were so close that people often mistook them as siblings instead of best friends. Mila never liked that; her real brother was annoying and she didn't want people to think that about Lando. With presents from both their families already in the front room, Mila and Lando had all the time they needed to open them. Of course, there was always the very first present to each other; it was something they always put so much thought in to, and no matter what, they didn't let their present idea slip.

"Mila, you look really pretty today," Lando reached for his best friend's hand as he sat on the carpet, noticing how shy she looked when the words came out of his mouth. Her hair was perfectly split into two French plaits and she wore a baby pink blouse with black skinny jeans. "So pretty."

"Lando," Mila covered her cheeks as a giggle tumbled from her mouth. She was embarrassed, and she didn't want anyone else to see her red cheeks, never mind Lando. "You're so kind to me."

"That's what best friends are for," Lando leaned closer towards Mila and didn't hesitate to leave a quick kiss on her forehead. She smiled to herself, before Lando pulled out the neatly wrapped present for her. "This is for you. Happy birthday."

Mila looked at Lando with wide eyes. Everyone was sitting comfortably in the front room, waiting patiently to watch Mila and Lando unwrap their presents, but all eyes fell onto Mila and she could feel her heart pounding against her chest. She noticed that Lando couldn't stop smiling at her whilst she fiddled with the wrapping paper, creating a small tear in it to allow her to open it with ease. The package was soft and immediately, Mila assumed it to be some type of clothing. When she felt the soft material with her fingertips, she moved to rip the paper away at a faster speed. She couldn't wait any longer to see what he'd bought her.

Mila giggled to herself when the black t-shirt rested in her hands and she held it up so she could read the printed letters on the back. The front was plain, but the back simply read 'Norris' in block capitals. Lando always teased her, telling her that she desperately needed something to wear each time she joined him at the track to show everybody who she supported.
