His POV

I could tell she was off. She woke up much earlier than she usually would, she didn't walk around in her pj's for a while but immediately put on a decent outfit. Didn't go for a run like usually, didn't watch tv, she didn't even have breakfast. She did nothing that would take time away from her.

When I came downstairs this morning she had already laid the table with the fancy cutlery her parents had given her when she moved out. Right now she's leaning above the stove, checking the bread she had put in there about 30 minutes ago. I walk over to her and wrap my arms around her.

„Babe" I whisper.

She tenses, frees herself from my arms and walks over to the fridge and gets out some ingredients she'd need for the cake I believe.

„C'mon babe, relax" I try again.

I hate to see her like this. And I don't get why she's so fraught.

„It's just my parents" I add.

She abruptly turns around to me.
„It's not just your parents."
She points the knife she's currently using to cut some chocolate in small pieces at me.
„It's the first time they come to visit us since we moved in together and I want them to know that I can take care of their son!"

I chuckle as I shake my head at her
.„You know they're not stuck in the 18th century where the woman had to be the perfect housewife right?"

Now y/n sighs and puts the knife down. I almost feel bad for making fun of her.

"I wanna make a good impression anyways, okay?"

I can see she's really serious about it and I take the knife from the counter and continue cutting for her.

"Alright, it's important to you so I'll help."

From the corner of my eye I see the smile making its way onto her lips.
"Thank you" she exclaims before sprinting off to the utility room.
"I need to freshen the sheets in the guest room! You continue to bake after the recipe yeah?", she calls out to me before she's gone.

I shake my head to myself but continue to fill a bowl with all the ingredients mentioned in the recipe.

When y/n comes back downstairs I've finished it and she instructs me on how to continue. We replace the flowers on the kitchen counter and the dining room table, hover the living room and give the guest bathroom a good clean.

When we're done we take a shower and get dressed for dinner. Y/n puts on a light blue wrap around dress and I stare at her in awe as she walks downstairs. „

You're beautiful" I say as she walks over to me.

She smiles nervously as she thanks me and only seconds later the door bell rings.

„Relax. It's gonna be a really nice evening" I tell her before I open the door.

And I'm right. Of course my family loves her. They always have, that wouldn't change because the meat is a little too well cooked or because we forgot to put the champagne in the fridge.

„We've had such a nice evening, thank you both so much" my mum says when she hugs both of us before she and my dad head to the guest room.

My parents close the door behind them and I wrap my arm around my girlfriends shoulder.

She leans her head back against me and smiles. „You were right. I really didn't need to stress that much. Your parents were lovely as always."

I chuckle as I place my lips on her forehead and gently push her over to the living room.

„I'm shocked you ever thought otherwise."
