Her Dragon

Within her burns a fierce fire,
Although no one has ever seen it.
She keeps it locked up,
Hidden from prying eyes.

Her dragon is a raging beast,
With eyes of glowing embers
And breath as hot as the fiery furnace,
Coated in barbed scales of poison.

She keeps her heart locked,
Fearful of what would happen,
Should the dragon suddenly waken
And find that it's been freed.

She tries to forget that the cruel beast,
Still slumbers in her chest.
Yet in her darkest hours it growls
And breaths a fearsome breath.

The walls on her prison heart
Shake and clatter with rage!
The beast tears its talons
Shredding her heart into threads.

'Let me out! I'll take care of them!'
The wicked beast cries.
It spews its white hot fire
Burning into her mind with hatred.

She struggles to keep the dragon
Walled up in its cage.
She knows that should it escape,
She'll lose all the friends she's ever made.

And so she locks away her emotions
And bottles them up inside.
She doesn't let anyone see her
Or know what she feels inside.

For deep down within,
In the darkest corners of her heart,
The great dragon sleeps,
Waiting for it's chance to leap
To soar and to burn.
