Leaving for good

Valentina's P.O.V

I walk the stables and see Shimmer.

"Hey Shimmer. I'll miss you." I say as tears fall down my face

I take a random horse out and take it with me.

Ellie's P.O.V

I run to the house to see if Valentina was there. I open the door and see that her stuff was gone. Them a certain item catches my eye. I walk on over to my bed and see the small bear i gave her on it. I tear up a little bit and hold the bear in one hand while the other was wiping the tears on my face. How did things escalate so fast? I waste no time and gear up and run to the stables. I hop on Shimmer and put we go.

One week after

Valentina's P.O.V

It was night time and i have just set up the campfire in front of the small liquor store i was staying at. I've only seen a few runners around here. But never made contact with them.

After about half and hour i turn off the campfire and bring my horse, Marina, inside with me. I stuff myself in my sleeping bag and wait until i fall asleep.

Ellie's P.O.V

After about a week or so of trying to find Valentina i see a blown out fire. It looks pretty recent to me considering i still see the smoke rising up.

"Wait here Shimmer." I tie Shimmer to a tree nearby.

I take out my knife and stay low as I'm trying to find a way in to see who it is. I see a window and silently go in. I recognized the horse's saddle. I think it's her. I still keep my knife out just in case and walk closer to the body laying on the ground. It was facing the opposite direction of me. I very gently kick the body and the person takes out their revolver and aims it at me. I smile when i see who it is. I put the knife back to it's place and raise my hands up so she could see it.

"Hey Val." I softly say.

She looked shocked.

Valentina's P.O.V

What the hell? It's Ellie! I frown at her.
"What are you doing here?" I raise my voice at her a little.
"I came after you."
"After what you've done?"
"It was just a kiss. Nothing meaningful."
"Just a meaningless kiss?"
"Well yea-"
"Ellie. We were something. And you made a promise. To me."
"Val i know. It was just Dina being Dina. Plus she was drunk. I'm sure she didn't mean it."

Yeah she was drunk. I lowered my gun but raised it up again.
"You should have pulled back!" I yelled.
"Be quiet." Ellie tried to get close to me.
"Back off!" I yelled again.

I started to hear runners closer and closer.

"Let's get out. We'll talk later." Ellie said and she went out through a window.

I tried to open the garage but it wouldn't budge. I tried again and again but nothing. It was working fine and hour ago so what the fuck?!

"Valentina!" Ellie yelled.
"The garage won't open!" I started hearing gunshots.
"Leave the horse! Come with me!"
"Ellie i can't just leave Marina here."
"Or you will die in there!"

I pat Marina's neck and go through the window Ellie went out of.

"Come on." Ellie grabs my arm and helps me up her horse.
"Why do I have to run every fifteen seconds of my life?" I groan.
"Just go."

When Ellie hops on Shimmer we gallop away. After we are far enough from the infected we stop at a small abandoned town.

"Let's make sure we are safe." Ellie jumps off Shimmer and stays low.

I get off as well and walk towards Ellie.

"So?"
"I hear nothing. Think we are in the clear."
"Okay. Let's stay in here." I say and walk in an old pet shop.

"Look at this!" I look around and see a ton of cages.
"Yea. Empty cages." Ellie says.
"Do you think we'll find any animals?"
"No. They've probably been without any attention for a while. They are dead."
"Hmm. Good point." I come across a small stuffed hamster.

"Ellie." I look at her.
"Right. Look Val. What happened back then. Was stupid."
"But not for me!"
"You are yelling again."
"So?"
"That's how we got spotted by the infected in the fist place."
"It's not my fault i cared so much about you."
"What? Cared?"
"Yes Ellie. Past tense."

Ellie frowned and looked at me.

"Are you serious?"
"Yes."
"Why did i come after you?"

I looked down at the floor. I kinda regret what i just said. But I wanted to make her feel hurt just like she did to me.

"This is over Ellie. Just back to Dina."
"Maybe i will."
"Then go!" I yelled like never before.

We both hear infected yelling and look at each other. We gave each other a look saying,"we'll deal with this later."

One came in and Ellie shot it. Another came in and I shot it this time. Then two came in we shot it down. Then four then six then eight then twelve.

"We have to leave." Ellie said without any emotion in her voice.
"Yea."

We were about to run out until the runners walked in our way. Ellie shot three of them so there were eight left. I shived two. Six to go. Both Ellie and I got our bow and arrows out and shot the rest.

"Let's go." Ellie said, blood covering her.
"Oka-"

I was cut off when a runner jumped on me. I struggled for a while. Ellie was about to shoot the runner on me but she had her own problems. A clicker ran at her. I was already struggling. Then i saw another clicker but this one had no legs. It crawled using it's arms and held on to Ellie's leg and bit her. It fucking bit her!

"Aw shit!" Ellie wailed in pain then shot the clicker up in her face then shot the one at her leg.

I felt a pain on the side of my shoulder and heard a sound of a gunshot.

"Valentina get up. You okay?" Ellie said worried.
"Uhh.." I was sacred to say i think i was bit.
"Valentina!" Ellie yelled.
"What?"
"Are you alright?"
"Ellie you were bit." I try to reverse it on her.
"Fuck.." She covers her face with both her hands and looks at me.
"What is going on with you?"
"What is wrong with me?! Ellie i saw you! Getting bit by that fucking clicker!"
"I haven't told you.. I'm immune."
"Okay. You're immune? Come on." I say shaking my head.
"I was bitten a long time ago."
"The fuck are you talking about?"
"I was bitten and nothing happened." Ellie sounded straight up.
"I don't see a bite mark Ellie. I've seen you naked and saw nothing."
"That's because i covered it up."
"The chemical burn."
"Maria and Tommy and Joel are the only ones who know."

I look away from her and to the ground.

"Now you know."

I inhale holding my breath for a few seconds then let it out.

"I can't.. Get you infected if that's what you are worried about. "

I keep breathing in and out.

"I can't make you immune either."

There was a silence for a good 7 seconds.

"Can you say something." She fiddles with her fingers.

"Ellie.." I start to get teary.

She crouches down so she can look at me.

"I think I was bitten." I say holding my shoulder.
"What?" She says.
"Don't worry. It's fresh. You don't have to kill me right away." I try to lighten the mood with some humor.
"What are- what are we supposed to do?" Ellie takes her gaze off of my eyes and looks down.
"Nothing. I just need to stay here until i tur-"
"Are you fucking kidding me."

I look at her with a sorrow face.

"I'm sorry Ellie. I'm bitten.. Which means I'm infected.. Then. I'll turn into them." I look at Ellie.

She looks at me with a hurt expression written across her face.
