Chapter 47
"Wish that you would hold me or just say that you were mine."
(Raine's POV)
"We are allowed a phone call!" I shout at the officer who is sitting on the table across from me. He is not interested in the slightest in my pleas of justice, and while that is fairly obvious, I will definitely not give up until I can get that damned call.
"Actually, that is a courtesy," he responds, swiping through his phone as if he has got nothing better to do.
"Well then how the fuck do you propose we get out of this situation?" Zayn asks, impatience laced in his tone as he drops his head against the jail bars. To keep us apart, they placed us in two different cells across from each other. While I appreciate the effort, it doesn't keep us from talking to each other.
"Sign papers and pay a fine, or stay here overnight to see a judge tomorrow and she'll decide."
"Okay, fine, hand me the papers," Zayn says, frustrated.
"No!" I interfere, "no way. You want us to say we're guilty of a crime that was initiated by your dumb fucking officer."
"He ain't do shit," the cop says, his southern drawl making him sound less qualified to have any input.
"He assaulted me!" I shout, fire burning through me. Just as I shout this, another cop opens the door to hand the man some papers and her eyes fall on me. She laughs, shaking her head at the scene of both Zayn and I questioning the man who really doesn't give a shit.
"Ma'am!" I say, trying to stop her before she leaves the room. She sighs, turning around to look at me. "I need a phone call."
"I can't help you," she shrugs.
"Yes! You can," I plead, wrapping my hands around the bars as Zayn watches. "Look, one of your dumb coworkers smacked my ass so I clocked him, not knowing he was a cop, so they arrested me and my friend here. If I had known he was a cop, I wouldn't have- okay, no, that's a lie. I would have probably still hit him. He deserved it, I'm-"
"Raine," Zayn interrupts, shaking his head.
Realizing I lost my focus, I start again, "look, all I need is one call. The phone is like a foot away. Please."
She does not look sympathetic in the slightest, but when she sighs, I feel like I have a win. "Who was it?" She asks her fellow cop.
"Johnson," he responds, laughing.
"I knew it," she shakes her head, grabbing the jail keys from the desk and making her way towards me. Grinning, I step back as she unlocks the door and escorts me a to the telephone at arms length.
"Thank you," I say to her, but she just nods once.
"If you are ever in that situation again, clock him twice for me," she tells me, walking over and dropping the keys back on the officer's desk. Strangely proud, I grab the phone and begin calling the only person I can in this situation.
"Who you calling?" Zayn asks.
"Moon."
I can hear him laugh from behind me. "What's that saying about an enemy of an enemy?"
