Derek crossed his arms over his chest once him and Steven were alone.

he didn't let Steven get a word in, immediately opening his mouth with a smug smile, "let me guess, you're gonna threaten me because i want Y/N back? i'm not scared of you or your stupid magic trick-"

Steven grabbed the collar of Derek's shirt and lifted him into the air with ease. pink swirled through his eyes, shooting through his skin and making him glow.

"stop. talking." Steven's voice was low. "stay away from Y/N. if you get anywhere near her, if you even look at her, i will not hesitate to drop kick you into space. got it?"

Derek nodded frantically, all the smugness gone from his expression.

Steven glared at him for a few more seconds, then released his grip on Derek's shirt and stepped back, a cheeky smile returning to his face. "great! now we can get back to the group."

he trailed behind Steven in terror, avoiding eye contact with you and making a beeline to Lindsay. "that kids a fuckin' freak. don't waste your time." he muttered.

Lindsay glared him down. "no, i want him."

"well what do you want me to do? he's gonna fuckin' kill me if i look in his direction. the plan's off."

Lindsay rolled her eyes. "why do I have to do everything myself?" she turned to Steven. "hey, Steven? wanna go get a funnel cake?" she smiled cheekily.

instead, he looked down at you. "you want to get a funnel cake?"

you looked at the stand in thought. "if you share it with me. we've still gotta play that ring toss game. i want that undetermined creature!"

"i think it's a cross between a duck and a panda?"

you two started towards the funnel cake stand, leaving Lindsay behind in anger.

-.-.-.-.-
everyone was standing in front of the Farris Wheel, waiting for their turn.

Steven had been giving Derek subtle glares when he got as much as three feet away from you, and Derek finally reached his limit. "yeah, um, i'm gonna go." he backed away before anyone could protest.

Anna waved goodbye to him with a small smile, and Lindsay processed the predicament.

someone would have to ride alone now.

as soon as you stepped forward to pay for your turn, Lindsay latched onto Steven's arm. "how about you ride with me instead? Y/N will be fine alone, she's used to it."

Steven stepped back. "um- i'm gonna ride with my girlfriend. plus, i'm paying Mr. Smiley extra to stop when we're at the top so we can watch the sunset!" he whispered happily.

Lindsay rolled her eyes. "why? i'm so much better than her, anyone can see that!you know she's like, depressed or something? it's so weird."

Steven shrugged Lindsay off him with a look of disgust. "just- stop touching me. Y/N is much prettier than you, and she has an actual personality. so, for your own sake, please-" he was cut off by the doors to one of the carts opening, and Mr. Smiley waving you both on. Steven grabbed your hand happily. "let's go! i have a surprise for you!"

you laughed and followed him, leaving Lindsay and your other friends completely dumbstruck. "holy shit, he actually likes her." Grace said quietly.

Anna smiled. "i'm happy for her. she deserves someone good."

Lindsay smacked Anna's arm. "don't say that, he's mine!" she yelled.

"no i'm not!!" Steven called from the cart.

-.-.-.-.-
you hadn't spoken much, too busy admiring at the sun setting over the calm ocean.

the ferris wheel stopped when you two reached the top, as Steven has planned. "it's really pretty, huh?" Steven kissed your cheek and leaned against the seat.

"i could have done without my rude friends and ex boyfriend, but i had a lot of fun today." you smiled.

Steven smiled too. "me too. i love you, N/N."

"i love you too, Steven."
