The pain in Max's body decreased through the days. Neil seemed to have calmed down. He was still yelling at her for nothing, but he didn't raise his hand to her yet. Maybe he was done being violent. Nah, she wasn't believing it, but she was trying to not get in trouble to not give him other opportunities to beat her again.

Now she was in direction of her next class: English. She liked English, she was quite good at it, but she was liking it especially because she could spend some time with Jane. Just Jane. She hadn't been very correct with Jane lately, but the brunette never blamed her for that, and she was really appreciating that side of Jane. It was pleasant and reassuring to know that someone could understand her feelings without putting pressure on you or blaming you for these.

But the redhead was feeling guilty, Jane didn't deserve to be treated like that. When she arrived in the room, Jane was sitting at the back of the class, her head in direction of her drawing book. Max couldn't hold her smile. She loved seeing her best friend. She quickly walked to her, avoiding the paper balls flying in the room, put her bag on the chair next to the brunette, and moved behind Jane to wrap her arms around her. The brunette bit her cheeks to contain her smile, but she failed, and the blush growing on her cheeks wasn't helping.

- "Why so much love?" Jane asked.

- "To apologize for treating you like shit."

- "You don't need to apologize, I understand."

- "Then it's to thank you for understanding."

Max kissed Jane's cheek, increasing the heat inside Jane's body. Max sat next to her while Jane was hiding her face.

- "You're making me smile," Jane stated.

- "Oh yeah, what a shame!" Max joked.

- "You know I don't like my smile."

- "I know, but I still disagree."

- "I look stupid when I smile."

- "That's so not true! You look stupid even when you don't smile!"

Jane playfully pinched Max's arm which made laugh the redhead. The teacher entered, forcing everyone to stop talking. Max spent her class murmuring with Jane. She was glad to have her, it was like a safe place when she was with her, no matter where they were. And she was feeling that pleasant sensation inside her. She loved it, she was like flying above everyone by just looking at the brunette next to her.

After their class, the two friends walked together in the halls in direction of their lockers. But when they saw the metallic furniture, they both sighed at the view of the tall blonde girl leaned against them.

- "What can I do for you, Abigail?" Jane asked while she was opening her locker.

- "Oh, nothing in particular, Bitch."

- "Why are you here then!?" Max replied.

- "I'm just here to warn the bitch here."

- "Warn me about what?" Jane asked, frowning.

- "I know there is something between you and Troy. Don't roll your eyes, everybody knows, you're kinda sex friends, but he is mine, is it clear!? You have no chance against me, you're a piece of shit, you're pathetic and miserable."

- "Oh, you scared me, I thought we were talking about me and not you."

Abigail gave Jane a death glare. She felt anger growing so rapidly that she slapped the brunette in front of her, making a loud noise in the hall. Max didn't appreciate that, if there was one thing she hated, it was violence toward her best friends. She quickly walked to the blonde girl and pushed her so brutally that Abigail lost her balance and fell on her butt.
