I was so wrong. The week had dragged. It dragged so much that I was forced to just say yes to doing both Saturday and Sunday at the cafe in order to avoid boredom at home. I hated being home alone. Every little noise kept me awake and on edge. How is it that you don't notice little things like a door creaking weirdly when you're living with someone and then when you're alone, all you hear is creepy noises that you hadn't noticed before?
I missed my siblings, I was going mad thinking about all the fun things they were doing while I was here being miserable. I would ring Thea almost every few hours but she began to get annoyed with me after the first 2 days and turned her phone off on me. I was going to kill her when she came back!
"Surprised to see you working here."
I jumped suddenly hearing the familiar voice of Brandon, my coworker. My heart was beating fast, no doubt he had scared me. I was so lost in my sad thoughts that I hadn't noticed him. "Brandon, you scared me." I squeaked. He chuckled in response, placing his arms on the tabletop.
I was finally on my weekend shift at the cafe, which was much less boring than the law firm. People at the cafe, however, just needed to be a little nicer to the people serving them their coffee.
"What can I get ya?" I teased, placing my hand on my hip. He smirked at me slightly, eyes scanning my frame briefly. No doubt my face was red.
"You choose, I'll take whatever you decide for me." He responded, eyes twinkling under the fluorescent lights.
"Okay, funny story Brandon...I'm not a coffee person so I can only really recommend hot chocolate and the desserts." I confessed.
He gasped dramatically, "you did not just say that!" I giggled at him. Brandon was the kind of guy that made you feel at ease almost instantly, he was really sweet and I enjoyed his company.
"It's true! And I'm afraid this might be, what you'd call typical, but I actually prefer tea. Coffee makes me nauseous but don't tell my manager that or she'll fire me." I replied, laughing.
He laughed too, making me blush. Alright, he was kind of cute too. Not as cute as-
"Hey I've been meaning to ask you this.." Brandon's voice jerked me back to reality.
"I kind of.. I mean..I like you, like a lot, Charlie."
Okay, what now? If I was drinking something, I would have surely choked. For now, all I could do was open and close my mouth like an idiot, unsure of what to say.
"Um..thanks?" was my response.
Oh my god, can I die already. He chuckled in amusement, further adding to my embarrassment. Someone dig this idiot a hole to bury into.."Are you free tomorrow? I'd like to take you out." He asked in a soft voice, making me blush involuntarily.
Tomorrow was Sunday, I was working tomorrow as well but I suppose I could go out after I finished work. The question was, did I want to? Did I really want to?
"Um, I'm working tomorrow-"
"That won't be necessary. She's with me."
My body stiffened, nerves tense and jittery just hearing his voice. What on earth was he doing here? I turned to the side, as did Brandon, and my eyes caught his ocean blue eyes. Unknown emotions swirled in his now dark orbs and I felt nervous all of a sudden. His gaze held a promise, a threat, I couldn't tell. But whatever it was, I knew one thing for sure; saying yes to Brandon was going to get me into trouble. But too bad, I was still going to.
"Oh my..are you..no way dude!" Brandon's excited voice broke off our heated eye contact. Ugh..another fanboy. I rolled my eyes. The nerve of this boy..who the hell did he think he was just barging in here and making decisions on my behalf?
