A four year-old Wendy Pond was sat next to her elder sister proud of the painting she had helped Amelia draw, Christine asked "It's a lovely painting, girls. And what are all these?"

Wendy's eyebrows furrowed together as Amelia said "Stars." Wendy nodded her head and added "Yeah stars! Can't you see that?" In the most innocent, yet condescending tone the adults had ever heard.

"Amelia! Wendy!" Sharon said, trying to reprimand the girls through the use of names.

"Tell you what, shall we go outside?" Christine asked the group.

Aunt Sharon nodded her head and they headed outside.

The younger girls were forced to look at the sky, "What do you see?" Christine asked them.

"The moon." Amelia told her.

Wendy, who was being held up by her aunt, looked over at Christine as she asked "And what else?"

"Just the dark." Amelia answered.

"But no stars. If there were stars up there, we'd be able to see them, wouldn't we?" Christine asked.

"Maybe their hiding." Wendy said with a small giggle, the young girl was ignored by the adults, as Christine lent down and said "Amelia, look at me. You know this is all just a story, don't you? You know there's no such thing as stars."

Wendy was taken to bed and her Aunt Sharon read her a quick story before going back down to talk to Amelia's psychiatrist. Wendy decided to sneak out of her room and go and see Amelia.

"Amelia." Wendy said as she sat on her sister's bed, "You can't sleep as well, Wendy?" Amelia asked, causing the younger girl to nod her head.

"Do you want to go and listen to the adults?  But we have to be quiet, it's a game." Amelia said to her sister, as she held her hand and the two walked to the stairs to listen.

"It's common, actually. Throughout history, people have talked about stars in the sky. God knows where it comes from." Christine said.

"I just don't want them growing up and joining one of those Star Cults. I don't trust that Richard Dawkins." Aunt Sharon said as Amelia sat down at the top of the stairs, Wendy sitting next to her, behind the railing.
